I've made some screenshots of the steps you need to do. At the top of your screen, click on your avatar (note I'm using my mobile phone, if you're on a laptop/computer it looks a little bit different, but it's still your avatar that you need to click).
Click Account details
Step 1 in the new window, click Change (ignore number 2 for the moment)
Change your username, say you need to do it because you don't want your email as a username, click Save
As I understand it, that should get you back to the Account details window, and then you need to do step 2, click also on this Save button to finalise the change
When you open the forum again, your new username should be there. If it doesn't work on the first attempt, try again, and don't forget to refresh your page. If you feel unsure, write down the steps on a piece of paper so you remember them once you've left this page.
If it still doesn't work, perhaps post in the Feedback... part of the forum asking if Admin could help you.
