I am loosing the will to live! Looking for a new horse should be fun but its actually a torturous nightmare of despair. I know my wish list is extensive but I cant find hardly anything to even go and see. I am having to limit my search area to the North of England as would require two visits to any potential purchase and to attend the vetting so taking too much time off work and spending loads of money travelling (staying over) isn't possible. (happy to pay deposit on first viewing to secure). Just like two visits so can hack properly on the second one as hacking has to be good).
My list
16.2 plus but not 18h!!!
7-11ish
Something more a hunter type stamp (no TB's as my last boy was one)
Any colour or combination - it could be purple!
Decent conformation but doesn't need to be show quality (dislike showing)
Must pass 5 stage vetting
Hack out nicely alone and in company
Work correctly for prelim level - basic outline, paces good enough to do novice perhaps elementary.
Already be happy out competing about 70-90 this is about my brave limit so doesn't need scope to go further. I was perfectly happy at BE80 with my old boy.
Be a nice person, genuine and easy going (probably the hardest bit!) Not highly strung, quirky, spooky or green.
Budget of about £6000
Searching in Yorkshire mainly although including the North East.

Had agreed to buy a lovely horse but it failed the vet (surprising everyone, even the vet!).

Everything is either £8k plus or the opposite being green, spooky, cheap project material which is not my cup of tea. Sellers seem to lie about everything, Dealers have horses in 5 mins but profess to know their personality and full history.

Not really asking for anything other than a bit of a moan and hopefully some words of encouragement to keep looking!! :) I lost my boy a year tomorrow (unexpectedly) and finally feel ready to look for something new but I think i want the impossible. I just want what i bought 9 years ago.

I have decided that the best way to buy a horse is not to look for one! I wasn't looking but saw my ponys ad and he ended up in my field. Same with my sister and her horse.

Have you joined your local fb horse sites? Seemingly endless horses are being sold on leeds Equestrian and York Equestrian, looks like everyone is getting rid before winter

Jack Thomas Watson has some lovely hunter types he is in Northumberland

I agree he has some nice types however just be careful. I was told my horse had done dressage and showjumping, turns out it had only been backed 6 months previous and done nothing at all!

Cumbria a bit too far, live near east coast. Agree Abi90 typical dealer exaggeration, tried jack but most just hunt if he has them for any length of time, most on quick turn around from the boat. Just don't want a green baby, not got the experience to bring on. Am in York equestrian, will try the Leeds one. Got to admit though you see a lot of sad stories on Facebook, makes depressing reading.

How about putting a wanted add up. Might get some riffraff but theres always a possibility. A lot of good horses are sold via word of mouth so it might be the only way to find one. I found my boy through a wanted ad on Facebook, worth a try?

I don't think what you are looking for is overly difficult to find really I mean JanetGeorge on here probably has something. However you are restricting yourself on location and that's why you can't find anything. Can you not take a few days holiday when you find something great to go and look at?

You could also arrange to go and see a dealer one weekend, drive down early on the Saturday, try lots of horses probably find one and go back the next weekend to hack it. Third weekend for vetting.

Yeah it might be a lot of driving but much of England is motorway and you can get to places pretty quickly. We travelled the length of Scotland to find me a horse and with limited motorways you can imagine how long that took. We weren't even ssuccessful as the horse failed it's vetting but really if you want a horse you are going to have to make some sacrifices. Or wait for a while til one shows up but that may take a few months. Oddly I thought I would end up in England looking for mine and I found him half an hour away haha.
