Apparently I Have Things The Wrong Way Round!

I have Ariat boots... with holes in them as they're due to be replaced :D

As good as the expensive brands are, they are just as good when bought in the sales and out of season. I have a lovely horseware coat that was half price 2 years ago which made it even lovelier, and Ariat tall boots that were 40% off for some strange reason (I think Ariat had stopped doing them with the thermal lining/stopped doing them in that shade of black?!)

B is a relatively easy keeper, I spend more money on shavings and pellets than I do on his feed and rugs whoops :P

I was thinking the very same thing 2 nights ago, I run out of something and although I looked like a tramp I washed my boots/hands/sprayed on some perfume and brushed the mess out of my hair before leaving the yard. I thought it was quite nice having my own personal space in the queue whilst in the shop but there is really no need to almost throw my change at me

Sorry but that made me burst out laughing. :)

I know my feed doesn't cost much (spillers is actually quite cheap) but its all he needs as he is fat now. I did make fun of myself to my mum the other day. I had on a mark Todd jacket and the horse had le mieux boots and numnah on. Said to her as I was getting on "we are exactly what people mean when they say all the gear and no idea".

EKW, i don't skimp on feeds, bedding etc AND i wear Ariat boots, the shame of it! !

:p

Tho otherwise i still look like I have been dragged round a stable upside down much of the time :D

Yup this is me.....but my two are only on dengie meadow grass, speedi beet and pro hoof balancer and one has vit e added....That's it

My Conistons are so warm and comfy though 😊

Oh this made me laugh :D I know the feeling!

Buy cheap buy twice imho. I rode in Pikeur breeches and Ariat boots yesterday, the horror. But I'm not forking out for a horse so...

(Pikeur winter breeches are worth every single penny too!)

They used to have a lot of discounted Ariat stuff on Equestrian.com. I wouldn't have any otherwise!

But my horses have all the Le Mieux dead sheep stuff, while I look for bargains for myself

having been in the animal feed trade ,peoples ideas regarding feed quality does amuse me. The feed industry has long resisted identifying the ingredients ,claiming this was confidential trade information. This is why over the years we have had various scandals regarding unsuitable ingredients such as meat protein in cattle feed (The BSE crisis) and of course the inclusion of DPM (dried poultry manure ) again in cattle and sheep feed.
The biggest compounders have a far greater range and turnover of ingredients and are thus able to fine tune their rations so that they meet the statutory content declaration at the minimum cost and with the cheapest ingredients. The smaller mills have no such luxury and tend to use higher quality ingredients in their cheap feeds .
sadly ,to survive ,many of these small mills had to sell to bigger companys and it was a sad day for me when my local mill ,J&W Attlee ceased milling in Dorking ,however as it was amalgamated with other equaly respectable companies I still consider their products very much top of the range. They now trade as Saracen .
I do however miss the days when I could buy my Equivite cubes straight out of the Dorking depot ,fresh off the mill. Absolutely certain of their quality.

I have one who is intolerant to cereals, alfalfa and soya, and need something to carry his salt and linseed in, so Agrobs Aspero has become my chaff of necessity. The delivery costs from England to here are eye-watering regardless of what's in the parcel anyhow, and the local shop doesn't do linseed or Agrobs. I do save money by buying the 24 hour soak sort of beet, but then I end up spending the extra on the animals instead of me anyhow, or else banking it for vet related stuff. I'm trying to find a healthier balance, but actually buying nice things for myself that weren't found in a charity shop or a sale brings me out in a cold sweat :(

A girl I know of on facebook just bought two very expensive matchy saddle pads, but hasn't got the vet out for her horse who desperately needs it or a back person for the other horse who is in a lot of pain.

I like to buy matchy bits and bobs for the horses, the mare is now almost completely kitted out in green :D however, she never goes without anything she'd need to be comfortable. I don't "do" buying expensive though. I bought some green stirrups for £20 and felt I was spending a huge amount! My work wellies are £16 from Tesco and seem to be wearing ok, my jods were childrens for £17, mares bridle was £5 from a friend, never spent more than £10 on boots for the horses...etc etc. I do fork out for vets, dentist, back people, rugs and my hat/bp. As far as feed goes, Ned gets his from mother nature (grass only!) and Serenity gets cheap nuts, which she likes, linseed, stroppy mare, sugar beet and some cheap chaff. She's doing pretty well on it!

It was Saracen's Show Improver Cubes that I was buying. Where I uy them from, In the book they have them listed as £12.50 buy in price but they sell them for £15.55. I have queried why I am being charged £3 more for them but in reality they suit my tb's well so I only grumble a the price once in a while to them lol!
