I’m do like watching show jumping and I’ve been to a fair few shows and happy to watch it on the tele. Dressage is my thing to do personally though. So, my question…… what on earth is that half-rising-trotty thing they do in the canter?? The horse is in collected canter and the riders sit one beat and rise one beat like it’s a trot. I don’t remember this in the past. Is it new ?

I remember it from yonks ago, ie the 70’s.

Rising canter, soft knees half seat, bouncy two-point seat...

Quite a few names for similar things, it seems.

Oh this was useful! Fancy that, never came across this growing up! The video was very informative. Thanks for helping

Think it’s called ā€˜posting’ or was in my day! jockeys do it sometimes. I don’t like it. Seems to me it’d be v easy to get out of rhythm with the horse.

Very usual in polo. It spares the horse's back. But quite difficult for a novice to ride. I know as I used to try and fail on my old favourite Maisie. On my current horse I use a lightish seat in canter. She is ridden by many sharers and wouldnt hold with any fancy stuff. Also I am 20 years older and so more cautious.
But OH and I do still love watching polo.
