This may sound a little odd - But I wonder how much emphasis we place on the appearance of our horses' gear.....
In the magazines everything seems colour coordinated and 'just so'.

For example, I wonder if some people might put their horse in a flash noseband because a drop doesn't seem to look good, or perhaps choose a rug beased on colour rather than performance? What do you think??

I like to buy smart things, but don't worry too much on colour etc.

I prefer to keep my stuff clean, washed and in good condition. I always think those perfectly colour coordinated look a little chavvy.

No not for me! I buy things because I have a genuine need for them - usually because something has fallen apart from use! I have a black synthetic saddle because that was the colour in the fit needed that they had in stock and I have a Libby's black bridle because I can shove it in the washing machine. All my numnahs are black because it is easy and can shove them in machine without worrying about colour run!
I have very basic tack with no special gadgets or fashion items. The most colour I have is my yellow hi viz jacket and pink riding hat...and yes they do clash terribly! But I bought the pink hat because it stood out and was bright so would help me on the roads with traffic...!

I know many people who have to have everything colour- co-ordinated, down to having identical rugs for their 9hh and thier 15hh, As long as mine are in good condition, suitable and clean, I don't really care.

So glad to know someone else prefers drops! TBH, can't see the point of a flash at all, doesn't even look nice!
Don't laugh, before I left schoo; I'd dream of having my own yard and everything would have navy and red rugs, exercise sheets, browbands, the lot, I thought that would be the bee's knees, sad eh?! Do have to admit that if I buy anything coloured, I tend to keep to either brown or black so it does at least match and not look tacky (sorry about the pun!)

Have to admit that when I decided to try Harry in a hackamore I was concerned that wearing a noseband would ruin his 'arabness'

Actually though it looked quite cute. Works too!
I am also one of those dreadful 'coordinated' people of whom you speak, in that I have boots, browbands and saddle cloths in baby blue, and my all tack and riding boots are brown

I always buy accessories like boots, bandages, saddlecloths etc in either black or white, they all look ok together that way. I have a full travelling kit in green but apart from that regarding rugs etc.....anything goes (or doesn't!)

I have to admit an obsession with green, I have countless green saddlecloths numnahs, green thermatex (now that is colour and performance all mixed in one)

Allthough colour wouldnt affect everything I buy he does have other colour things, (didnt mention those are the things that came with him!

Virtually every horse on our yard has one of these (because they cost less than a tenner!)

Because we go to a lot of shows, we also have several smart burgundy wool rugs for going in the ring and alaso have burgundy and silver in our browbands, so I suppose burgundy is probably our "colour". Our numnahs match the colour of the horse when we are showing. But at home we have a selection of white, brown and black numnahs in different sizes and use whatever brushing boots are clean and dry at the time we want them. I did see a pink leather bridle, pink leather headcollar and pink 3 ring dutch gag the other day (but I didn't buy them!)

I buy what I think will do the job... however... I am a sucker for things that are black and grey, or grey and any other colour (apart from blue or navy - it would clash with my piebald!!) But If I was to go out and buy a numnah, I'd choose one which colour I liked!! I have lots of different coloured bandages too, but I just grab the first set of clean ones I put my mits on.

One thing I will not buy is black tack (saddles, bridles, leather headcollars)... everything has to be brown!!

His travelling gear all seems to match, but not on purpose, he has a pink, baby blue and navy check rug which was a bargain at about £16 on ebay... and its really good quality shires too, and baby blue boots, also a bargain at £20 bought from a show, and a navy tail wrap.. which I've had for years!!

There are many people I know though who have to have everything pink etc!

Governor has co-ordinating saddlecloths and bandages (his legs swell with boots). I'm quite fussy about stiffness of saddlecloths and thickness and length of bandages and he has a few sets in olive, beige and taupe...fairly practical but I think he looks smart.

Rugs etc. are in whatever colour they come in - mainly navys as most of mine are Mark Todd (for fit).

I do have to say I am one of those 'awful' colour co-ordinated people but I won't buy something rubbish just coz its purple - I will just choose the purple option of the thing I am looking to buy.

(I have just bought a stable rug and an under rug in blue though as they were the best option so I'm not all bad!!)

Most of Henry's stuff is either black or blue - it suits him and most rugs / boots etc come in those colours anyway!

However I will be searching Your Horse Live for a hot pink numnah *evil smilie*

I cruellly make my horses go out in rugs and neck covers that don't match!! And my bright orange horse was made to wear bright red boots - the shame of it.

Mind you, I don't dress any better myself - hubbies old T shirts and jogging bottoms for mucking out. Like someone else said, it all ends up sh*t coloured anyway!!!
