Apple cider vinegar for arthiritis?

Someone suggested apple cider vinegar to me a couple of years ago (!!) on here for arthiritic horses. I remember being told to get unfiltered rather than filtered if possible but I'm struggling to find somewhere to buy large amounts of it (no point paying £5 for 500ml when it'll be gone in a few days), or to find unfiltered at all TBH.

Can anyone suggest somewhere I can buy online? I'm not bothered about buying horsey products as it's cheaper for people anyway, so will just feed him that.

He's already on JointFX (plus having just spent 2.5K getting him x-rayed, injected with cortisone and various courses of Adequan!) and I will probably put him on Devil's Claw too. He isn't lame, just feels it a bit sometimes, especially now the weather has turned colder and he's in at night.

Not much help on the cider vinegar (!) but my Mum's horse is getting fab results with the Solvitax RA oil stuff...he's 20 and just started to be a little stiff.

I will look into it.

Considering he's so cheap to feed (even hunting he's just getting adlib haylage with a bit of chaff and handful of nuts to take his supplements), he's going to cost me a small fortune every month in supplements I think!!

Yes I've been looking into joint supplement just to help my girly along and have been recommended apple cider vinegar, sorry no idea about filtered or unfiltered, online you can get 5 litre containers of it though.
 
Long Melford Saddlery in Suffolk do 5 litre of ACV for £9.95. They also do mail order.

That said, you can buy it cheaper per litre from Tescos.. only in smaller bottles so bit of a faff doing the shopping !
 
I use it for my oldie & yes it seems to have an effect.

You can by 5ltr from Feedmark or Naff also do one that is found in most local saddlery shops. There both priced around £17+ but do last ages.

One's from the shops don't last 5 mins im afraid.

It should last the same, when i used to buy it from the shops you could only get it in small bottles. So ive never bought it since.

Apparently the only thing that is important is that the ACV was made by pressing the whole apple as apparently it then contains more nutrients.

I know the feed mark one had actual bits of pulp still in it. Havent found any pulp in the Naf one, maybe it's a feedmark gimick.

Yes I have just looked into this a little more and for a 500Kg horse you need to feed a whopping 150ml per day, which means a 5 litre will only last a month, which if by some chance you can get it at £10 for 5 litres then cost per day is 30p as opposed to cortaflex of only 38p per day (when the 908g bought) to me for only 8p difference a day I'd rather go with the cortaflex which is proven to work on joints.... Also equine answers do premierflex HA with all the ingredients of cortaflex and costs 33p per day!

So what I'm saying is if the apple cider vinegar is anything more than £10 for 5 litres then you maybe better off going for a proven joint supplement like above!!!
 
I have found Naf superflex to be the best joint supplement and I think I have pretty much tried everything by now. Mobifor is considered the "vet strength" version of superflex but actually I see little difference. I feed at twice the daily amount to ensure horse gets more than 10mg of glucosamine etc.

Cider Vinegar did nothing at all - I fed it for about 6 months. It isnt good for horse with suspected ulcers/cribbers etc as the acid irritates the stomach.

You can get it in large quantities from a suppplier in cornwall - forgotten the name but if you google "cider vinegar cornwall" it should bring up the supplier.

In my OP I did say that he is already on JointFX ("proven" joint supplement) as recommended by my vet...

I got a 40 litre drum from Mile End Supplies last year but I can't remember what I paid for it, I do remember though it was the cheapest I could find at the time.
 
Wow!! What a rip off (nearly £20 for a 5 litre can of cider vinegar) I can't get over that, their prices for brewer's yeast and other stuff is extortionate as well.
 
I get 25 litre drum for £37.50.

The shop bought stuff is pasturised & filtered so all the good bits have been taken out. So it looks nice for people!

It should be cloudy & full of bits which is the pectin & 'mother' were all the good stuff is!
