I have a small but sucessful Riding School and getting more and more emails from Chldren / adults requesting jobs or enquirys into Job vacancies.

First, at least these people are doing something positive and at least getting in touch. But please please please if you are emailing into any job prospect, at least write the email in correct letter format, with good English and correct spelling, This evening I received an email, from probably a 'very nice' person but to be honest twenty words into her email - I dismissed her because of the grammar bascially it was awful, there were 27 spelling mistakes in 178 words and most annoying she used the word 'I' at the start of every sentance but to make matters worse wrote it 'i' ... I'm sorry but as Employer first impressions are very important, so please to help improve your chances of gaining employment and even more so if writing for 'Chance' employment, present yourself in the best possible light. A good, well thought out and pleasant CV attached to a short smart covering letter will certainly get my attention and that of other Employers !

Good Luck to you all

i cant believe people think they will get an interview with spelling mistakes??? simple things..... spellchecker!

You would think so ! Believe me - I wish I could copy and paste some of the emails I have received this month - but that would not be correct of me to do so but oh how I wish I could !!

Is it wrong of me to highlight the word "grammar" and "a" not "an short smart" :p Sorry I had to point it out!!

Whilst I agree with your sentiments, I feel the urge to point out, that I have found a few spelling mistakes in your post, not to mention poor grammar.:)
So, in a nutshell, if you want to have a pop at other's spelling/grammar, it would be advisable to make sure your own post is perfect in that department.;)

I have to say that I agree with you. We were recently recruiting at my mother's business and received a lot of applications. Many emails we received were very poorly written, as were several of the attached CVs. I appreciate that not everyone can spell well or form wonderful sentences but I would hope that everyone these days had access to a spell-checker or a dictionary.

I'd also like to point out that posts on a webboard are rather different to emails in which you are putting yourself forward for employment! Some email enquiries regarding the position just looked sloppy, rushed and as if the candidate couldn't really be bothered. My personal favourite was a lady who emailed with one sentence asking for more information. When we sent her the information on the role, she just said someone of her excellent experience and knowledge would be expecting a far higher wage. Maybe we would have offered a higher wage if she had bothered to attach a CV or tell us anything about herself?
