Approximate fee for sedation?

My mare is awful with dentist, she stand like a lamb to have the edges take off without the gag, but when the dentist wants to do their job properly and puts the gag on her, she goes mental, rearing and charging around the stable squishing everyone against the walls. So she needs sedating by the vet. She is on loan to me and had her teeth done by the owner all other times hence I don't actually know how much aprox, it will be for the vet to come out and sedate?
Any ideas?
If it helps, we're with Oakham vets.
 
:eek: :eek: :eek: £170 for vet to come out and sedate?! jeeeeez that is a lot! better get saving then, cuz I have to pay EDT on top of that :(
 
I had mine sedated for dentist last month, just got the bill and was quite pleased - £50 inc call out fee, 1x sedation and another top up. The vet also stayed for a good 20 minutes to check if she needed anymore.
 
I just had mine sedated to clean his sheath - this vet doesn't charge call out for pre planned appointments, and the cost of the sedation (not the consultation/work) was £21.88 + the dreaded VAT = £26.18.This particular vet is an EDT too, but it would take perfect planning and synchronisation to time it for a different EDT visit, this sedation only lasted about 20 minutes.
 
expensive I'm afraid, more than the dentist themselves.
call out fee £40 I think
£22 roughly to basically calculate the amount of sedative and bute
£20 waiting fee, while they sit there and the dentist works, so they are there when horse starts coming round.
£20 or more for cost of medications
my dentist was £55
 
I think I paid about £80-ish the last time the vet did teeth with sedation - but that was without a call-out fee.
 
My vet is a qualified dentist. Think i paid 80 for teeth and sedation. I get free callout thurs afternoon otherwise add 40ish to that
 
£38 per tube for magic paste called Domosedan that's an oral paste, same as injectable sedation and extremely effective!
 
I paid £72 last month for call out, flu/tet jabs and sedation for a wolf tooth removal (done by dentist) vet stayed about 20 minutes until it was all done. think the sedation was around £15-£20. x

Is Domosedan the same as Sedalin though? Because sedalin only made her a tiny bit wobbly but she still reared and charged around, was just more prone to falling over so even more dangerous :o
 
Domosedan is more potent than sedalin but still didn't touch the sides with my mare. I wasted money on sedalin, then this and still had to go to IV!
 
Sedalin didn't have very much effect on her at all, she was still just as strong, just as stupid and just as quick, she just lost her balance easier when going up, so I don't think I am gonna waste money on the other one, I will just pay a bit more to get vet to sedate properly, she still slightly fights the vet sedation :rolleyes:
 
With the sedaline did you make sure it had well and truly kicked in (probably about an hour or so) before doing anything unusual, as its useless if there already stressed. (You probably did but just in case)

Otherwise £70 quidish for vet sedation if the vet on a cheap call day. It might be cheaper to have a vet do your mare as then it's all in together, Oakham should have someone decent.
 
yup, she came in about an hour and half before EDT, got sedalin, then she got put in her stable and got a massage and a groom, she was falling asleep by the time EDT came, gag went on and off she went :rolleyes: I might ring up tomorrow and ask for a quote :)
