Am becoming completely obsessed by bits!! What bits do you successfully use on your appy's? Mine has a thick tongue and very pink sensitive inner lips.

Am going to get onto the bit bank and trial some, but just wondered what you had all had success with - as appy's in my experience are quite vocal about what they do and don't like!

I have an appaloosa x in a happy mouth with roller 3 ring gag. He is quite cally to other horses so i am actually using naf magic to help him concentrate on his work rather than stare and call at other things it works wonders

Are all appy's like this? I only got him in september and havent competed him yet, at shows once he has got over calling to others do they behave lol????

:D lol glad its not just me then, ive had my boy 4 years now, if i hack out alone we get so far & he calls, last week we did a 5/6 mile hack and he called all the way there and back  He does it a shows too, usually aimed at ponies who look like my other pony :o He even does it when hes in the school sometimes working on his own :D

lol i have never had an appy until this one so i have not got used to the idea that he calls to everything. In half term my friend brought her conny mare over to ours for a general jump session and a hack and he was very cally when he first saw her then when i rode him he wasnt bothered and rode like an angel :)

My friends Appy is in a jointed hanging cheek snaffle with a drop noseband - I used to ride him when he was a just backed 3yo and he was so strong in a flash/cavesson - the drop noseband really helped him

Mine's in a loose ring full cheek snaffle with a copper lozenge, seems to suit her - she grabs the bit as soon as the bridle's anywhere near her.

my appy stallion (who we have had 12 yrs) is ridden in a straight bar happy mouth with fulmer sides hes was broken in in it and is happy with it, we have tried a metal bit and all he did was rear up vertical.

my old appy gelding was just ridden in a eggbut snaffle

we have found over the years we have had a lot of appys and a lot of them seem to go better in a happy mouth
