Anyone tried the above bedding.
Are they any better than decent shavings?
I can only see them at the suppilers livery yard and he says they're brill, but he would wouldn't he.
Opinions please

Some people on my yard keep their horses on it. They only remove the soaking wet bits and the poo and mix the rest into the bed and it dries...

Some of the beds look really good and take very little work- those of the horses that aren't very wet!!

But a couple, with really wet horses have swapped back off it again as their beds were getting really smelly....

So think it depends.

Not much help was it..

I use it for miine and would never go back to shavings. It's so much quicker, cheaper and easier to manage.

It does take a while to get used to. You have to find the balance between taking out enough wet so it doesn't get smelly and leaving in a little bit to "activate" the new stuff.

Great stuff!

It's quicker and cheaper than shavings or anything like that, but I hate it. It gets really dusty and is a pain in the bum to get off horses, rugs, dropped items of clothing etc.

i used it for a while but switched back as i found it quite expensive, but it was easy to manage and to muck out although it seemed a small bed the horses liked it

Had my horse on it for a while but he got really wet and it ended up more expensive than shavings which is what he is on now as I was using several bags a week. It's OK if you have a clean horse and its very quick to muck out, that's the bit I miss mostly the time saving aspect!

They use this at the yard I work at.....

One bed is great - takes no time to muck out and stays "clean"

The other is another story!! Dark, damp, smelly heavy, takes longer than shavings bed.

So I think it depends on your horse's pooing/weeing habits.

And agree it's a pain in the neck to get off clothes, boots, sweeping.

I think it's about a fiver per bag - you're meant to add a bad a week....
