ok so im asking these questions out of interest,

1: Which bit / bridle do you use on your Arab?

2: which bit does your horse like / dis like?

3: what type of mouths do most arabs have?

Crikey. How long is a piece of string?

Arabs are all individuals and come in all shapes and sizes don't they?

I tended to ride my arabs in hackamores as that is what they were happy in. Hunting I'd change one to a Myler LS Combination.

One, a Crabbet with a larger mouth hated ANY bit.

Another, Egyptian/Polish, much daintier and with a tiny mouth preferred jointed bits, and hated STRAIGHT bars.

Current Egyptian/Polish mare, smaller than the others again, totally different temperament again, hates ALL bits and turns herself inside out, but goes quite happily in a bosal.

I knew three arabs, loaned one of them. The one I loaned had a tiny mouth and likes a narrow french link. One was bigger and more sport bred and had a huge mouth and like a nice fat single jointed snaffle and the other was only 13.3 and had a small mouth and only went well in a narrow straight bar.

Lol.

By narrow I mean thin not width.

1. 16mm (thinish) french link snaffle for schooling and very short shank french link pelham for showing. Bridle is a Fylde.

2. Likes Ultra KK snaffle / dislikes happy mouths.

3. Small, tend to get on better with thinner bits as they take up less room.

I rode an arab weho was very very strong, but also very sensitive in the mouth in a rubber pelham.

If you weren't planning on going anywhere quickly though you could just ride him in a eggbutt snaffle.

I use bits with a french link mouthpiece - he didn't like a single jointed one as he has quite a low palate and therfore prefers the double joint. He also has quite fleshy lips as well. His bridle was made to measure for him.

I know she's a half bred but she does have a tiny mouth :)

I use a 4.5 inch hanging cheek french link ( which is quite thin and shaped) but with the slightest touch as she is very sensitive. You'd not believe her mouth was so small as to look at she's a 15.2 quite well built ( from the cob other half ) but yet I tried a 5 inch bit and she looked like she was chewing a bone...!

I will try her with a bitless bridle when we resume work in a few months.
