I have acquired a pretty little arab mare Des de Forges x Faery Wand, she appears to have really good breeding and I have been able to trace her lineage, but I can't seem to find out what sort of arab she is ie Crabbett, Egyptian etc, not sure if it makes any difference but will be looking to sell her on come the Spring and I want to get the best home for her. If there are any Arab experts out there perhaps you can help?

That's brilliant thanks for your help. And yes it was Dejda Des Forges but not got her passport here and keep forgetting it. I have tried to get on Arabianlines forum but for some reason I can't seem to get a login. I will try again. Dawn

Is your horse SPASIBA? She is listed here is web page
I am only familiar with the Faery Wand side of her breeding (some lovely Polish/Russian horses there). Lots of photos of her ancestors on Allbreed you will be there all day!

Would reccomend Arabianlines forum some real experts on there (also good place to advertise your horse).
I bet your horse is lovely, def. bred to perform.

I have a horse of the Faery lines, Faery Dancer (half sister to the famous Rusleem) - out of Faery Rose by El Saleem
I think the Faery lines are old english and crabbet but not 100%
The Faery lines are highly thought of.
If you like I can ask the guy who bred dancer as he was heavily involved in the Faery lines ?
My girl is liver chesnut with four white socks and a blaze , flaxen mane and tail , gorgeous if i do say so myself

I can remember seeing Spasiba for sale - isn't she nicknamed Pinkie? From what I can remember she was chestnut and had some roaning down her sides?

Yes that is her. I don't know why they said she was only suitable as brood mare she is fab to ride, she hasn't put a foot wrong so far. Do you know anything more about her?

Hi Fazzie, I don't really understand the Crabbett, English, French, Egyptian lines, can you explain, does it make them better bred if the have specific lines?

It doesn't necessarily make them better bred, that all depends on what you want them for. Different types of arab show different traits, for example, Crabbet/old english types tend to look vastly different to straight egyptian types - they egyptians normally being more 'extreme' in appearance, taller and more slender, the crabbets normally shorter and more compact and stockier - combine the two to get the best of both worlds. If you pick an outstanding parent from each 'type', that is rarely going to produce a badly bred foal!

Thanks for that, quite simple terms for me to understand, I have now registered with the Arabian Lines website and am learning a bit more each time. It seems that my little girl has a bit of everything - Crabbet, Egyptian and French. I've now found out that she was actually bred for racing and raced as a 4 year old, she was shown in Wessex Arab show in Spring 2007 and came 6th and I have found out who owned her then and I have asked on the AL forum if anyone knows of the lady so I might be able to find out a little bit more about her. I can't believe that a horse of her calibre ended up where she did. It just doesn't make sense. I really want to know more about her. It has been really exciting finding out a little bit more about her each day.

She was on the AL sales pages probably 3 or 4 months ago - how did you come by her and why are you looking to sell her so quickly? PM me if you would prefer?

Do you have any piccies that you can post as from what I can remember the ones on the ad were rubbish!!

Hi Bexand Spooky,
I bought her by accident, went to look at a cob at a private yard in Chelmsford Essex and she was the only other horse on the yard. The story was that the yard was closing and both horses had to be sold by the following Friday and if she didn't go to a private buyer they would sell her to a dealer. To cut a long story short I ended up buying both. the cob mare I bought for my sister and she is now happily ensconced in Newcastle with my sister. Samirah (or Pinkie) was sold as unrideable, but I thought she might have a back problem so took a chance, got her home on the Friday had the back man on the Saturday and was riding her by Sunday night, she hasn't put a foot wrong since. She is fabulous but a) I couldn't ride her myself, much too heavy for her
b) I already have 2 other horses, a 17.2hh ThoroughbredxHanovarian (who is currently lame) and a 16hh fat Irish cob who I'm riding and having great fun on
c) I'm totally broke trying to keep 3 horses
I really want her to go to a good home, but need to get a reasonable price for her to get my money back (I borrowed the money from a friend so need to pay it back asap) I am very disappointed about the general price of arabs, regardless of the credit crunch, but add the credit crunch in as well and I will be lucky to get what I paid for her, let alone what she has actually cost....
she really is a super little mare though and she is doing her first prelim walk trot dressage test on Sunday, I have had an endurance rider take her out and she believes she has really strong potential as an endurance horse - so fingers crossed, we can get Sami a really wonderful new home and Mummy and I can get my money back. No good at loading pics, but will have a go when I get a bit more time

Hi Dawnrider, I've been following your threads on here and on Arabian Lines.
In regard to your question about price of arabs and how a mare of Spasiba's tye could end up at a dealers etc. Unfortunately its all too common. In my experience over several years of arab ownership I've watched prices plummet,
the market is flooded with very well bred arabs, daughters and grand get of national champions going for a few hundred pounds and so on. Problem is in the inhand showing world they seem to follow a fast moving fashion, and yesterdays champions just dont do it for today. One of my mares in exceptioonally well bred but not worth much in£'s. So few people actually appreciate what is there pedigree wise. Arabs which have raced can tend to be viewed as past it, too hot to hack, to worn out for anything else, ditto endurance. And there are simply far too many arab horses about , most people dont want them as hacks. There are , sadly, fairly regulaly arabs at auction ,again well bred, fetching £300 or£400.Most are ex broodmares or just adult horseswhich no one has backed. Its all very sad.

hello, i have read your messages and i thought you might be intrested to know that i am pinkies (spasiba) old owner. we only owned her for about 6months. I bought her for my 15 year old daughter but she lost all her confidence on pinkie as she was always doing nasty spooks with her. We had her back done twice and vet check and we had endless problems with saddles. We had someone down to try to ride her for us while we were trying to sell her but she was very unpredictable bucking and rearing so we decieded to put her up for a broodmare because i could not let people ride her as she was dangerous. We then saw an advert from the dealer and that was our only chance to sell her, we bought her for £3250, and sold her for a big loss at £700. I also know that the person who bred her is looking for her, please message me back!

I have been in contact with Liz Harrington who bred her and she did not indicate that she was interested in her at all. If she is, she has my email address so could contact me at any time.

Thanks for your input, it really is amazing how some horses can command huge prices £5k upwards for fairly ordinary breeding and these wonderful arabs not worth hardly anything. Anyway i shall b e putting Samirah up for sale in the next couple of weeks so watch this space, it is most important for me to find the right home for her but hopefully I won't lose money on her we'll have to wait and see
