I'm starting to dream about being able to buy another horse. A few things are slotting into place (promotion at work, possibly being able to rent a field nearer to home) that mean I'm starting to envisage a riding horse joining the two golden oldies. I'm not enormously fussed about breed (so long as it's not heavy or got feathers) but I would love another Arab. The aim would be to do a bit of everything and hopefully a bit of BE80 eventually.

So, to get to my point! It would be great to see your Arabs and hear a bit about them. Especially where did you buy them (particularly if any of you bought from breeders) and how tall they are. I'd be after one of the bigger ones which I know are less common. L is 14.2hh and I did ride her into my 20s, but was feeling pretty tall on her when she finally retired. My ideal height is 15.2hh. Would also love to hear what you do with them!
 
I have 2 bay Arab geldings I bought 1 as a 2 year old from round oak estate Arab stud they breed some beauties Google and have look, his 14 now and is the sweetest horse ever his only just 15h but rides bigger he has been shown in hand and under saddle and has done quite well over the years, my other one I acquired from a friend he just wasn't suitable for them I have had him 3 years his bigger at 15.3 and not straight forward as the other one but his quite talented my instructor does dressage with him well only since january and thinks he could do an elementary test in a few months.

I just love Arabs I first rode one when I was 15 and was hooked and have been involved with them ever since, I have had a few other different breeds but I always get drawn back to them I know I wouldn't want to be without my 2, I have no idea how to post pictures on here and don't do Facebook but happy to send you some a different way if your interested.

Are you looking for a youngster to bring on yourself?
 
I have been looking for an Arab for a while but something specific and not found it. But in terms of studs, I do like the Arabs that come out of Vlacq stud in Wales, Laura and her mum have been breeding some really good performance Arabs, successful in endurance and other fields, nice natured, and often seem 15hh+, they have a facebook page. If you want to look and can't find them drop me a message. If I was looking for a youngster that's where I would go......
 
You may struggle to find a taller Arab as alot of the endurance people want them too! Like Crazydancer says Vlacq stud produce lovely pure and part breeds. I found my last one advertised on the internet, he was cheap because he was an unbroken 8 year old, the rest of the Arabs I have are race bred.

It would be great to see some pictures of your two if you don't mind! 15.3hh is a fantastic height, that's what I'm looking for! My friend had one that was 16hh, but they don't seem to come around that often.

I would take a youngster, backed or unbacked, or something that had done a bit more. All depends on the right horse coming along!

I just found them on Facebook, some lovely horses there! Out of interest, what are you looking for?
 
Another vote for the Vlacq Arabians. Are you on Facebook? If so, are you a member of Arab Horses UK? Or the Endurance Riders UK?
 
There's a grey filly on arabian lines to make 15.2hh approx. She's a WH Justice granddaughter and looks so much like my gelding at that age (he's also related to Justice) despite being a different colour.

As a disabled horse owner, I hold them back really. They could do so much more than I can, but they cheerfully do what i can do when I can do it. My mainly Crabbet bred grey is shorter (15hh) but is wide and takes up leg well and has even had a lightweight 6ft something novice on board.

There are. and She often has new owners posting photos of them out and about, doing a 'job'.
I was looking for a mature 'been there, done it, got the t-shirt' sort, pure or PBA, but Arabs get into your heart and I don't think many people move them on if they are good 'uns. Also have a specific 'type' I like, the more old-fashioned solid type without the dishy face. My old PBA retired last year, so I just wanted a new friend to bumble around the countryside, but am too old for any drama, so finding a 'happy hacker' was also making it tricky!
 
Another vote for Vlacq, i'm hoping to get another Arab next year and they will be my first port of call although i'm now wondering if I really want another youngster but as someone said previously the good one's tend to say in homes for life. I have two currently, my mare who I bought straight from Binley as an unbroken 4 year old who sadly had an horrific field accident when she was 8 so is now a field ornament. She had so much potential for dressage and endurance but the accident put paid to that. My gelding is Crabbet/Polish and I got him at 15, he is now 23 and still ridden but looking for a quieter life hence why the plan is to get something to ride next year. It is quite scary though and I might even end up looking at non arabs, shock horror! Both mine are 14.2/3 and I would want something similar in size as not as agile as I used to be and do have a lot of gates round here that you can't do from on board. I'd also recommend Binley but think they only have a two year old for sale but worth asking Caroline as they are super versatile horses.

What is the difference between the old fashioned and modern types? I know you mention the dished face but I thought they all had dished faces.
I don't know much about them but i used to ride one at a riding school many years ago. He was very intelligent. He really looked after the little kids who were just learning to ride. When a more experienced rider got on, he upped his game ;) He was worth his weight in gold to the riding school.

The old fashioned arabs tended to be chunkier and have beautiful heads that weren't overly dished. The modern arabs tend to be a lot finer in build with teeny tiny muzzles and an extreme dish which some think is beautiful but personally I think is hideous. You can get all sorts of different variations in between. I like the old fashioned type because they take up your leg and make great riding horses but don't command the same sort of prices that they in hand show horses do.

Do endurance riders use the traditional type?

For this reason, I would go for a racing Arab, they are much more agricultural and tougher!
 
Can i complicate things?
The traditional type that may be referred to is the crabbet / old english whi h thend to be chunkier, not as dished etc.
Polish and russian could also fall into this category... both crabbet and polish/ russian are used an awful lot in endurance and tend to be more bred for 'riding'.
French ones tend to be bred for racing and look like thoroughbreds. Current arguement whether they are actually pure or not is ongoing.
The egyptian time tend to be finermore dished heads etc.
America seems to be where the 'extremes' are.

Anyways if you want to ride it go polish/ crabbet, obviously exceptions. Had a lovely endurance mare into school... was spanish lines (arguement also whether they are pure or not too, may have andulsian blood in them a few hundred years ago).
 
Yup, as above. My PBA was sired by a pure bred stallion of Crabbet/Old English breeding, he was a true powerhouse with a huge shoulder, wide barrel, deep girth, solid neck, elegant 'wedge' shaped head, and was only 14.2hh (Although grew an inch bigger at shows!!) He was also an exceptional nature, and as someone else above posted, would look after his rider, whatever their level. I have known some nice solid Russian and Polish bred horses as well.
