Arab X Thoroughbreds as eventers?

I am not sure I would want 50/50 with arab x TB but a dash I think it fine.

I think in your position with the mare I would be looking at a nice commerical stallion who produces what you like as the first foal was nice but until you get it under saddle you will not really know if it is special so having something a bit commercial will help if you choose to sell.

Would you not consider Cevin Z - I think he would be a great match for Poppy?

Why not go for an AngloArab stallion, so you would get 1/4 Arab. H & H did a series on famous horses a few years ago and it was surprising to see that an awful lot had a bit of Arab in them from a generation or two back.

If you are wanting to produce "an eventer" I don't think an TB xArab would tick everyone's box, but certainly something other than pure TB would be a good idea. Lots of eventers have a pony/shire/something else in the pedigree. Since your mare is TB then you need to look for a performance stallion, I think.

At one time an Arab held the world record for High Jump, so they can jump, but I suppose there are talented individuals in any breed.

To be fair, that's probably the majority of modern warmbloods. :)

Thank you for all the input everyone have got a lot to research, will look at the French stud websites & see what there is for AA / SF boys ( that French stallion is lovely Kit- & found a few more AA's standing at his stud!)
LEC yes I agree I probably should use something commercial like Cevin but I just couldn't bring myself to use a warmblood on her hence why I started looking at the Arabs... Check out the photos of Highlight on the Biddesden stud website, a 50-50 Tb/ Arab & a stunning horse, reminds me a lot of Galan! But he must have come out of a large- framed TB mare, which Poppy is not. Will have to see what else comes up on the French websites.

TBH, to have a 50/50 that may have the potential to be above average, you'd need a big, solid, more NH type mare than Poppy, unless you found a very old fashioned Crabbat lined stallion. The Trakehner has an incredible amount TB and Arab, when you look at the actual bloodlines, possibly worth going down that route, as a more sports horse oriented/refined line. Also the Selle Francais, as already mentioned - the French are not as Arab phobic as we Brits.

Digressing slightly but someone asked earlier in the post about top anglo's...

I *think* Magic Rogue ridden by Gary Parsonage at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics was an Anglo, TBxArab (I thought they were the same thing??!). Totally bonkers though too IIRC and was only fed on about 1/2 scoop of pony nuts as anything else sent him right over the top!

'AA' from an official point of view only means a mixture of registered horses of both breeds or a cross between two registered AAs. I think the French book has a minimum percentage - 25%? - but they have such a comprehensive State registry system if a breeder goes outside of those parameters I suspect the horse just goes into a different section/book.

Yes, that's right. A friend had a full brother, by Scindian Magic if I recall correctly. Talented, but hot hot hot!
