It is my first ever ODE and also my mares. Due to recent napping behaviour and greeness we are going for the baby class. It is great as mate from yard is in different section to me same dressage time, Sj 2 mins after and XC 2 mins after her so hopefully it will make my horse go forward
I did a couple of hunter trials last year, so thought I better go for the second class - especially as I am aiming to do an Intro by the end of the year! Have you been before? Is it normally a nice course?
I have been several times on my own horse to their XC and helped friends at their ODE. It is quite an open course with properly built fences. The only downside is you go away from start then kind of loop back to the start and then have to go in the opposite direction. By then you need the horse forward to prevent any napping. The dressage is on grass and the SJ is in an outdoor arena (well normally)
I am really excited but soooo nervous at the same time!! Rescue Remedy will be at the ready - hopefully after I walk the course tomorrow I will be feeling better (or worse and wishing I went for the smaller class!!!)
I took him schooling to Lodge Farm on weds and he was a really good boy - so fingers crossed!
How many people really follow the entry rules at events like this? when looking at the times ive noticed that at least one girl in class two has recently won an open (3') jumping class a Crockstead! its really not fair to compete at a level lower than you able to do is it?
My horse is a complete novice, never even gone clear SJ let alone been placed. Good luck all, i will be on the dark bay mare that is probably on its back legs
i agree if you are in a novice class you or your horse should be a novice, plus where is the enjoyment in winning a novice class when you know full well you are above that level of competing! You have just downed genuine novice copetitors chances and possibly confidence in having another go.
Good luck to all who are competing anyway. Be safe!
And I'll be on the spooky little bay horse - probably falling off!! HA HA! Positive thinking! I was going to enter the smaller one but it said for genuine beginners only and as I did a couple of little HT's last year I felt I ought to do the middle class - need to be pushed out of my comfort zone a bit anyway!!! Looking forward to seeing the course.
