Well, we are home! We left the yard about 8am this morning, decided going by motorway, and he was fine.
We got there quite early for our class, but watched a fair bit of the showing.
Donovan was so well behaved, and warmed up really nicely, concentrating really well.

There were 5 in his class, and Donovan was pulled in 3rd. he done his individual show, then got pulled back in in 4th.

The judge felt he had too much bone, and would do better under saddle.
But never mind, it was a good day, until we got to load him again, and ran into a few problems, but got him on in the end!
 
I know nothing about showing but he always looks lovely to me! Well done for getting him out there and turning him out so well. Sound as if you enjoyed yourselves (which is always a good thing) and gave a good account of yourselves.

At one of the county shows when I took my A in the mixed small M&M, the delightful aged lady judge in full tweed suit in 30 degrees heat said to me when I stood out for her with my pony...
'Hmmm...well he is a nice sort...but...you know...I DO like my Section B's so they are going to win today..'

I roared with laughter, thanked her very much and she put the B's first to fifth!!!!

Dont know, he obviously seemed to have a favourite as the one bloke seemed to win all the classes! Sec A youngstock, and over 4, then sec A championship, then sec B.....didnt see after that though!
 
Pastie2, Yes he is a very nice man, and it was good of him to give a reason for Donovans placing, not like some judges that just hand you a rosette and walk by.
He was entered in the welsh sec b,mare,gelding or stallion foaled in or before 2007.he was up against 3 stallions, and one mare. The mare was the only one younger than him, who came 5th.

I know....I know...another showing story, but...

I took the same Sec A gelding to a WPC Medal Show and he was pulled in first above 3 stallions and when I asked the judge if he was sure...(I KNOW!!!)...he smiled at me and replied..'You had the best pony on the day' He went on to take the Gelding Championship!
That's showing for you!!!!

His ponies are lovely, just at the other end of the spectrum to Don. There are many judges out there that like the more old fashioned sort. May I ask what class you showed him in, geldings have a harder job to catch the judges eye than breeding stock.

Yes, will second this, his ponies are very much the 'riding pony' type of B. He had a palamino colt of my mum's 3rd at the Royal Welsh in a huge class, when the very week before he could only manage about 9th out of 11 at GYS - he is a very 'fine, quality' type.
It just shows how there are two very distinct 'types' of B, and you just need to try to find out what 'type' your judge is after :)
