oooh I have been on some really bad ones I've always found them in my time to be the posher ones that were the worst...the really rough low down kinda ones have all be great...infact I miss people at one particular place loads
Most are but the one i am on at home isnt - mainly cause if you bitch the manager is an irish guy and he takes no crap so you get kicked off!! Left us with a great group of people on my yard actually - am at uni on a part livery one now so cant comment! Old yard whilst i am up at uni was DIY and that wasnt too bad!
I think it is just big yards generically, as simply by the law of numbers you are then likely to get a bitchy individual or two.
My old yard made me want to give up horses, the bitchy clique, which included the YM, hated my horse because he wasn't a tb or warmblood, and blamed him for everything. Subsequesntly, they also hated me too.
Now I am on a yard with no bitching - a small yard, with 8 horses, 6 owned/loaned by one person who rents the yard.
It may not have the facilities my old one did, but by heck I am a billion times happier there.
In my experience larger yards are bitchy. i am on DIY with one other lady. it is brilliant. It is rough and ready, but I wouldn't swap it for the world. I am actually enjoying my hobby again!!
Not sure but I know you can pay extra for backstabbing, muck spreading, gossip mongering, cold shouldering, etc, on a part or full livery basis too if you want to! There's usually a menu pinned on a board somewhere that lays out the individual cost for such things.
I moved to my current place only 5 weeks ago, from a really expensive yard, where the full liveries were treated like royalty, and given priority over everything, and us happy hackers on the poor DIY yard just got in the way and were blamed for everything, cos it couldn't possibly have been the fault of the ones paying £500 a month, when we only paid £130! I'm now at a really cheap place, which may not be as luxurious as the last place, but is far more relaxed, less rules and people keeping an eye on you, ready to pounce if, god forbid, your horse pooed and you didn't jump off immediately to clean it up! My horse now has a giant field, horsey friends, a stable with a view, and fab hacking. Makes me wonder how the other place could justify their prices (it was mostly to fund the YO's quest to be the next Ellen Whittaker!!)
Apparently the day I left my horse pooed in the trailer and one drop went over the back of the trailer (which I hadn't noticed) and it was right next to the muck heap but the stable girl went round to the DIY yard and asked if I was coming back to clear it up! It took her more time to do that than it would have done to kick it onto the muck heap!
As far as yards go I have been on one which had the bitchiest YO ever. She was a totally self centred cow who just loved to bitch about everyone and then be really nice to their faces. Personally I find that where you get alot of youngsters tends to be where most of the bitching occurs. My current yard is lovely as far as the people are concerned.Unfortunately the facilites are somewhat lacking and the service has gone downhill(assisted livery) and I am leaving on Saturday after a total of 9 years.
Mine isnt. Its a DIY yard of about 30 although some are part livery during the week. It only opened April 2008 so everyone is quite new. Quite a few moved from the same yard to join here. Everyone is really nice and friendly and i've got lots of people to hack out with and ask advice from. Its a mixture of people who work 9-5, students (school and from moreton morrell college), retired and people who work from home. Not everyone does their horses at the same time and not everyone wants to use the arena at the same time so it works out really well. I havent really heard anyone bitching about other liveries about anything in particular at all. I count myself lucky as I know I could have ended up on a bitchy yard
I moved in the day it opened with one other livery too so it was easier to make friends with those who moved in after me.
Every other yard I've been on - yes.
Finally found one, which despite being a decent size, isn't too bad. Has it's moments, but definitely not the worst. Plus it has decent facilities! Sort of place that once you've got a stable, you don't move for anything! xD
Hhmmmm, well, ours is a little private yard with about 10 horses on and about 5 people. It's friendly enough but there are snippets of bitching and gossiping going on. Flares up every now and again but largely cos the YO privately disagrees with how people manage their horses but doesn't quite tell them in a tactful way. Could be a whole lot worse though.
My yards great, if anyone has a problem then it gets sorted, if someone doesnt like someone else they tell them straight up, No b*****s and no bitching, could be because there is noone under the age of 21 on the yard.
They are only bitchy if you take any notice of people!!! Seriously tho, not all are. I dont doubt a bit of bitching goes on in all yards, its the very nature that people are different, but I am on huge yard and its actually very refreshing on the whole.
We have a great yard! At most there were 6 of us, now there are 3 (not chased off, yard changed hands and we thought we'd have to move, some did then the chance to stay came along so the 3 left did) I've been there 15 years now, can only think of 2 events that were in the way of bitchy - otherwise it's great, we all help each other out.
No. Our yard is lovely, no bitchiness or real cliqueness at all. In fact its so lovely that people rarely leave unless they are genuinely giving up or their horse is dead (which is very frustrating when you want another stable!)!
not the yards themselves but the people! id always kept the horses at home in a rented field til i went to uni & took one with me. i started off at the uni yard & lasted all of 1 term til id had enough(other factors also influenced move). went to a local DIY which was fine for a while but the yard managers were the worst for bitchin, if i hadnt gone home for the hols i wudnt hav stayed there! halfway into my 2nd yr moved to another yard as it was cheaper & needed the space to fetch my youngster to uni as well. had a brilliant 9-10mths there, even stayed thru the hols, but after the 10mths the evil yard managers from the previous yard turned up to manage the place! (despite warning from myself & another livery to the YO as to their antics) so the bitchin began again & we left (we now hav our own place which will hopefully be being open to non-bitchy DIY liveries nxt yr!
