Are all mares unaffectionate??

Nope.... my mare is very affectionate, she LOVES attention and you only really ever know that she is in season because she is wetter to muck out and she has a 'sticky' tail - they are the only tell tale signs...... she is never moody or mareish.

Before I got her, I was 'advised' by my very experienced, good friend to buy a gelding as they were easier......and I had almost always had geldings, but there was something about her which made me want to take a chance with her, and I have never once regretted buying her. I'll be honest and say that she is not always easy and straightforward, but once you have gained her trust, she will always try her heart out for you.

our pony is a mare and i have to say i took alot of persuading by daughter who had fallen in love with her to let her have a mare, the only mare i ever had was my first pony who was a total nightmare and i had disliked them ever since. our one has really made me warm to mares though, she is very sensitive, affectionate and loving........sometimes a little too affectionate though if you get my drift! that said she is extremely hormonal and highly strung, thats where the sensitivity can be a bad thing she is far more work than any gelding i've had as you constantly have to tell her she is beautiful and reassure her and deal with her hormones, but when everything is working in your favour she gives you so much in return.....other times, like this week, the weather and her hormones get her in such a state that even after lunging she is so full of herself that its just not sensible to let daughter ride her..... my favourite of my own was a gelding though and he was an utter sweetheart and i would give anything to have him back, he was so easy to deal with, but so bloody dumb! i adored him but i'm not sure i ever got real love from him, he just loved me cos i provided dinner!

We've had lots of mares, and as with all horses it really depends on the individual, we've got 3 at the moment, one of them isn't very affectionate, but she's not nasty, and the other 2 are big softies, they love their cuddles and kisses! :)

took a while for my share pony to warm to me, but now she will rest her head on my shoulder and bury her nose in my jumper. sometimes she can be moody, but not really unaffectionate.
unlike my welsh sec a gelding, who really doesnt do cuddles and fuss!
