Are all Selle Francais crosses spooky or is it just mine?

I have 2 horses which are both by Selle Francais stallions out of ISH mares - they are both fun, bright performance horses - but unbelievably spooky. Birds, butterflies - even moving shadows on the road..... they're neither of them scared, they just like playing games!

I've been told Sfs are like that........

Is it just my two, or does anyone else have spooky SFs??

They're very sensible when they have to be - past cars etc, but just like playing - they also leave their fields and join others at a moments notice - friend shut her car door on the yard and one went straight out over the post and rails.... they're just plain silly!

We have a Selle Francais x Holsteiner & he's athletic, has great paces, superb jump & to be honest isn't really spooky. In fact sometimes he's a real 'dope on a rope'.

Ive worked in a showjumping yard here where the top GP horse at the time was Selle Francais - and spooky as hell in the arena. I rode him daily and he was always spooky and he was an 8yo then. Hed spook and back off fences - thats why he was such a clean showjumper, hated to touch a pole. A lot of the youngsters on the yard were by Selle Francais stallions and were fairly spooky, but I couldnt necessarily say it was down to breeding - more down to them being young, inexperienced and fit Id say.

We've got a SF mare, and she can be very spooky, the number of times she has whipped round in the school and left rider standing there - its great fun to watch!!! She is very sharp but is very talented, definitely not a novice ride.

Not much fun when you're the rider!! LOL (has happened to me more than once)

My SF share horse will spook in the school, but usually when I'm asking him to do something that he finds difficult. I've only shared him for two weeks and he needs new shoes so I've not tried him out on a hack yet, but his owner tells me he tends to look at things. Personally I prefer that to a horse that takes no interest, as long as it's only looking!

He's also quite cheeky - he likes to untie his lead rope and he's very good at "polo stretches" if you have a packet in your pocket when you're grooming him ;-)

I have a 14yr SF cross and if anything he's getting more spooky.as he grows old..as previous posters have said - big things don't seem to bother him much, like HGVs and helicopters, but a wood pigon sharing his field seems to freak him out. In his defence thoug,h he seems to take a lot of comfort from having other horses around and is really good if they are to "protect" him...Wusssseee

I have 8 year old SF x irish cob and she is not spooky at all. In fact she is brilliant and always leads other spooky horses.

It completely depends upon the individual horse, not the breed. I have a number of selle francais and all are completely different.
One 3 year old sf x ISH colt finds everything very scary, whilst another 3 year old sf x AA colt is scared of nothing!
My two 2 year old colts ( pure Sf and Sf x holst) have no fear!
Of my 5 mares, one is spooky unless competing. All the others are so laid back, they are virtually horizontal.
