is it me or are all yards the same

eg a lot of people that have a livery there and just seem to complain to every one else or think they own the place

but you get along with the owner and yard staff perfectly

i don't want to call them stuck up (its the wrong word but there are those people to)

people complain where you park, what you wear, what whea you groom a horse (i groom it what ever wea the owner / yard wants!)
you cant park in front of that trailer i want it out (you want it out ... but its my trailer! no it isent.. this went own for a while
it is if you look at it you will see it has my number plate is on it and if you look
very closely it does not has a normal ball hitch on it it has a quick hitch and that type of hitch will not fit you car!!

this may have became a rant ?

Thankfully not. I've been on yards where everyone have been lovely and I've made lifelong friends.
One yard I was on had one crazy b*tch. Thankfully she left a few months after I moved on. - lots of people had issues with her. I asked a question and she blew up at me. Before that she was telling me about the yo and how I'd get into crap for something. Can't remember but it was food related and I was stressing. Went to yo and said I feed like this because y and yo was like um..OK. turns out the livery was stirring trouble.
I'm still friends with a couple of my previous yo.
Yard I'm on now is perfect as you have a field with a shelter and tackroom no communal areas bar the school. You can interact with other liveries or not.

No I dont think they are I think we only hear of the odd bods which horse ownership seems to be a few. We get bad yards bad owners and bad managers on one side and demanding customers on the other. Like every other trade only the bad incite comment. The majority are just livery yards where everyone just gets on with it

I think it has become a bit of a rant, yes!

No, not all yards are the same. All the yards I've been on in over 50 years (including my own family's yard) have been very chilled and generally joyful places. They may not have been the smartest nor the most posh, but they have all been happy places to stable my horses.

Yes, there are some 'know it alls' on some/many yards, but that's life. Learn to block and ignore.

If you can't, I'd say you may have to look around for somewhere else that suits you better?

Over decades on different yards and probably hundreds of lovely fellow liveries, I think I've met 3 women who were very toxic. Thankfully, they usually tend to be serial yard hoppers as no yard can tolerate them for long. Once their behaviour makes even their allies fall away, they gather up their tat and take their unfortunate horses to pastures new.
Generally speaking, a yard is as good as the YO, who needs the skills of an old school matron, the patience of a saint and the diplomacy of a UN ambassador. Livery yards are micro societies with a collection of people with different backgrounds, experience and goals. Like a soap opera, we live together through good times and bad. Ill health, grief, birth of children, divorce, loss of jobs and unsurprisingly, nice people can become difficult for a while.
Overall, I think it's incredible that yards manage to provide a supportive and friendly environment where people can dash in and out, or while away time pottering about with like minded people.
If your yard feels toxic, move out. Better options exist.

Superb post above! Love the description of yards and saintly YOs. ?

I agree, I’ve generally had very good experiences on yards. Rare to come across really tricky people but I’m a bit oblivious and tend to assume everyone is nice. I’m still friends with many past liveries and on good terms with all YOs bar the last bonkers lot. So, if you’re experiencing a bad environment, I’d suggest you move.
