Are bananas the horse equivalent of marmite?

We had a pony that would go for cheese sandwiches or orange peels---she would happily eat the whole citrus fruit, but we were only willing to share the peels!

The Spooky Pony seemed confused when offered a banana. His field boss swooped in and swiped it, though. I tried giving him orange slices, since he loves citrus juice, and he sort of sucked the juice out and then dropped the rest.

I was trying to find an article I read about feeding bananas to horses at the Sydney olympics. Apparently they can help protect against gastric ulcers as they are very high in phospholipids.
The skins aren't bad in fact the best bit was supposed to be the bit right by the skin when they are really ripe but as pointed out if they are not organic pesticides will collect in the skin.

Mine loves them - even got agitated last night when i tried to eat one on the other side of the yard without sharing.
Loves oranges too but slurps and dribbles in a disgusting way so you have to stand well back.

My horse hates banana! I gave one to her to try with her feed and she ate around it then didnt finish it cuz the banana was stuck to the rest of the feed. Tried to hand feed it and she turned her nose up at it! I'll stick to carrots and apples me thinks!

Criso yes, I've read that article recently! Or rather, read a mention of it somewhere on the Internet
