I am looking at a clydesdale x wb x tb, and although he would be stabled i may need him to live out in future.....i thought clydesdales were good doers but a woman said to me the other day that is a common misconception.what are peoples experiances with them and do they need a mountain of feed? I do live in north east scotland so winters can be harsh.

thanks :-)

i had a mare (clydesdale x WB) from 3yr old to 10yr old, as long as there was enough grass or hay she never needed anything more than a balancer and lived out almost full time. she was a fantastic horse, great temperament and never sick or sorry, we competed up to affiliated novice dressage and she would have gone further witha better rider.

we do live in cornwall so our climate is milder? but i would say they are a good hardy cross.

- thats her in my profile pic :)

I have a Clydesdale x cob (in profile pic) and he's the biggest wuss in the world.
He loves his stable and in bad weather even refuses to go out.
He's only fed Happy Hoof with a couple of carrots and does really well. I soak his hay which is double netted. We have good grazing so I strip graze him in the summer.

I think you have to take each horse as they come, some are good out 24/7 and others like their creature comforts regardless of their breed.

thanks :-) i have an ausralian warmblood at the mo so he cant be a worse doer than that! he is gorgeous tho.
fingers crossed all goes well toms then,he is a beauty :-)

thanks
