Are FalPro rugs warmer than other makes?

I've just bought my girls the FalPro Chieftain rugs in 40g as they were too hot in their Rambo 200g during the warm weather. However they seem just as warm in these and the rugs themselves feel the same thickness as the Rambos.

Has anyone else had both rugs, or does anyone know if the FalPros are actually warmer than other makes?

How funny that you should post this today, as was something we were discussing yesterday! I have always just had Fal rugs, but was told by YO that the 200g was much warmer than other brands middleweight, and that I should get something in between (he has the 40g bulldog and 200g Viking) so bought him a 100g Landa rug, which on inspection the YO says is same as the 40g bulldog and I need to get a different brand 200g. As my experience before was only with Fal, I had no basis for comparison and obviously just rugged as needed, but it does seem on comparing rugs that they seem to keep the horses warmer - which has left me totally confused as I thought this was the way to judge the difference in rugs! Anyway, my boy is too hot in the Fal 200g but not in a borrowed 200g rug - so guess there must be a difference.
 
Yes I think they are. I got the FalPro Cheiftan (40gram) last year and my mare wore it all through the winter and was as warm as toast. The 40 gram Fal is warmer than the 200gram Weatherbeeta:confused:
 
So it's not me going mad then!

It's actually a bit of a nuisance because I bought the 40g chieftain to keep them cooler than the 200g they were in but there's seemingly no difference in warmth. Oh well, they aren't getting any more new rugs so will have to put up with it :)
 
Ah, another one here thinking "Ah, it's not just me!". Those 40g rugs are very cosy, I got one for my lad to give him a little bit of warmth and keep him dry. He can't wear it yet though, because as soon as the sun comes out he's sweating. I do like Fal Pro rugs though, they are very tough, never leak, and because they are breathable you can put them on a wet horse and they dry out underneath. I am replacing my rug collection with Fal Pro as I can afford to, because they just seem the best rugs for my Arab and Arabx, particularly because they fit them so well there is no rubbing.
 
our fully clipped horses were out in their 200g Fal rugs through most of last winter, it wasn't until the snow came down that they had their 400g ones on.

I've just treated Mason to a 200g Fal rug now he seems to have stopped growing, and it feels the same thickness as my friends Shires 400g one. So I guess we're not all going mad!
 
My Arab went the whole of last winter in his 200g Fal Pro. Only in the absolute teeth of a howling blizzard when it was sort of snowing wet ice did I have to put him in something thicker.
 
I thought because the Chieftain is their 'budget' rug then it may not be very warm as I've always thought you get what you pay for.

However for a £100 rug (including detachable neck) it seems no different to the £220 Rambo Supreme mediumweight - I am guessing though it won't be anywhere near as tough. I wasn't concerned about this because as 40g rugs they would only have been worn for a short period each year, but maybe now they will be worn through the winter too.
 
My 40g rug is a Fal Pro Warrior, purchased from EBay brand new for about £60 including p+p, I didn't buy the detachable neck because my horses don't seem to get on with them. I think you might be pleasantly surprised by how tough your rug is, I've always found Fal Pr rugs to be really hardwearing, and they've never leaked, not even when they get old.
 
I too bought a 40g fal rug, thinking it would be a good inbetweener as my boy is a warm horse, when his mates have fal 200g on, he has his 40g on. Well he was too hot and Ive barely used it, infact I used it the other day after he was clipped!
Friend has just put 200g fals on and they look like massive thick duvets. She also has the 40g rugs that she uses as LW and hers dont seem as thick as mine and her horses dont sweat even when we have a mild day.
I think they seem thicker and warmer.
 
Perhaps it's just the newer 40g ones that are too warm then if your friends horses don't sweat Louby. Although they seem like great rugs it is a bit of a nuisance as I too have a hot horse and wanted something to put on after clipping before she went into her 200g.

I should have bought a Rhino rainsheet with a 100g under rug but never mind, I will have to do that next spring as I can't afford it now after buying 2 Chieftains. My husband thinks I have too many rugs for them as it is so I'm going to keep this 'mistake' quiet ;)
 
snap :D but Ive been really good for a while now. I took the plunge and gradually bought one rambo HW, Rhino MW and a rambo LW and I find Horseware rugs much better. I do have a MW fal, that feels quite thin now and the 40g fal. I put the MW Rhino on the other day and hes snug but not too warm. Hes clipped, friends now have MW fals on and are unclipped.
Other lady on the yard uses a lw rambo wug with under rugs and thinks its great, she washes the under rugs as and when and then only has one outer to get washed and reproofed each year, whereas I have about 4!!
