Just went to buy a new bridle and 90% of them in my saddlers had a flash noseband

There were barely any cavessons or drops or grackles?

Are flash nosebands the norm these days?
Do that many people REALLY need them?

I know, Plain cavessons seem to be more expensive too.

My saddlery offered to 'unpick' the flash tab but I was too worried they'd make a complete hash of it that I never had it done.

Inchs sell cavesson nosebands though, i'm contemplating ordering a nice new one from them.

Exactly ! I wanted a nice plain snaffle bridle for my youngster the other week, and had a hell of a job finding one in the local tack shop. They had to make me one up in the end from various components

I know, I'd much rather have a nice flat hunter bridle anyday. one of ours wears flash and mine only wears it for dressage when i can't put him in his myler (as its not dreassage legal) cos he hates the french link and opens his mouth to avoid it!
collegiate do a reasonably priced cavesson bridle, otherwise its jefferies i think!

I hate flash nosebands with a passion. It's fine when the horse has had their teeth done, bit checked for suitability etc if people need them. But there are lots of horses out there whose owners don't bother with things like that, the horse is in discomfort and tries to evade the pain and so has their mouth clamped shut by a flash...

Not in every case, I hasten to add. But I've certainly seen more than a few where this is the case. Very sad.

I had to search for ages but found a very reasonably priced Kincade double bridle which suited D, lovely wide hunter style noseband and browband, i just don't ride with the extra straps or bit

Oh, it drives me mad. Too many people also then use it simply because it is there!! Luckily my saddler is happy to make normal cavessons or remove the tag (all very cleanly and neatly!)

I have posted about this myself - I saved up some money to trat myself to an expensive bridle from Badminton last year but could only find complete bridles with flash nosebands.

I dragged my OH round and round the same stalls in case I had missed anything. As you say, they seem to be the norm!

drives me insane ive got an elavator bridle has a crank noseband but i just do it up like a normal cavasson!

i just dont understand how everyone uses them and wants to!
dont think they look very nice

I think loads of people use flash's even when they're not needed (me included until recently)
Having accidentally left my flash at the yard when I went to a comp, I competed without a flash and there was absoloutley no difference.
From now on I'm not going to use a flash.

That's partly why I've just bought another Sabre bridle. Looked at all sorts but many had various complex nosebands. They also don't all sell matching parts for when my little darling manages to snap a cheek piece etc... Sabre lets you chop and change, mix and replace all parts and they don't seem to alter the shade of brown (as Albion have just done)

If you want a nice - reasonably priced cavason bridle take a look at this one. It has a separate removeable flash attachment. It looks really smart as is not as bulky as some of the padded bridles on the market

T was kind enough to model it for this picture! I am however nothing to do with selling it - he just has one and thinks he looks quite smart - with or without flash

In my local saddlers there are all kinds of nosebands including, flash, cavesson, drop and grakle. Maybe try a different saddlers?

This is a real bug-bear of mine- so many people ride their horse in a flash just because the bridle comes with it. There is a three year old at the yard I'm at just being backed and they have him in a flash, just because it came with the bridle!!! Grrr!!! Makes my blood boil!!!
