Are forums bad for the horse world?

I like this forum a lot as there are many people out there who DO have a helluva lot of good stuff to pass on. Yes, there are also some who want to pick a fight and basically try to prove that they are much better/superior to you, but isn't that really just a reflection of life generally? I mean in all honesty, I HAVE been on livery yards where there is a really nasty little clique who go out of their way to undermine those who are a bit lacking in confidence. So to some extent, and I really don't want this to sound mean, but you do just have to toughen up to that. Ignore it and cherry bit the things that are clearly offered kindly and in a supportive manner. But please don't stop using it as it can be such a useful and enjoyable way of learning.

I really like the forum. The good points far outweigh the bad.
Its like life, there are folks you respect, some that are well worth listening to and others where you smile and jog on :D

I think if you are not enjoying a forum or a thread, stop reading it, for a while or altogether.

I do enjoy the forum because none of immediate family and friends have interest in horses (except kids, but they do not want to talk horses with their mum), so at least it gives an opportunity to read and post about what I have an interest in.

There are some vulnerable people out there, so I do think that people should not be abusive in their posts

Tallyho I think th bed braiding means working the straw at the door of your stable into a neat plait. It was done in the army to keep the soldiers busy and near by so if they were needed for battle they were on hand , not drinking and whoring in the town.

Ohhhhhhhh riiiiiiight.....

Well why didn't you tell me, there I was off on an acute useless tangent when I could have been plotting to keep the teenagers down at the farm so busy, that they stopped faceacheing on their iphones and blueberrys while "working"....

TAllyho you are definately very sad and desperately need to get a life! :D

but neat link if you can understand about the number of holes on each side!

It is quite interesting when you have read isn't it??? I'll never have the time to give it a go.

I am very sad indeed and a life would be just the thing I need...;)

Vituperation!!!!! Immediately added to my list of words to use at the first opportunity :D:D

I am a fairly new forum user, only this and one other. I think, and just my very humble opinion of course ;), that yes there is definitely a place for forums today and you can certainly learn a lot, but need to bear in mind its mostly just someone else's opinion at the end of the day and we all do things differently and all horses are individuals, so what may work for one might not necessarily work for another. Take everything in the spirit in which it is (hopefully) intended, take no notice of the less than helpful/or 'troll-like' comments, think and read thru before hitting the 'go' button.

The world has a fair few rather opinionated occupants, and unfortunately the horsey world seems to have rather more than its fair share (no offence intended to anyone here of course ;)) but hopefully at the end of the day we are all aiming for the same thing which is the best care of our beloved equine friends :)

Anyone for tea and toast?

^^This.

I have found this forum extremely informative and I have picked up loads of useful tips and information. I have also been able to offer advice as well as receive it. It does annoy me sometimes the way some people are jumped on for no reason, but I see that more as a problem for those guilty of the behaviour than the 'victim'. Bullies have something important missing from their lives and are generally very unhappy people. So I feel sorry for them. Best thing is to ignore them, or point out in black and white what they are trying to do, which makes them look stupid. :D

But suicide? No. There is a lot more going on in the life of someone who commits suicide than problems on a forum.

Are horsey people worse? No. The bullying behaviour happens on virtually all forums on all subjects. It's just the dark side of human nature.

I think it is a bit crass to link a member taking their own life, to forum business, as far as I am aware it had nothing to do with the forum, more a tragic incident in their personal life, and anyone who can remember that person's spouse coming on here looking for answers, and begging for the account to be closed down, would not make light of it :(
Or maybe I am taking the exclamation marks and smileys too seriously, it is only a forum.

I am sorry I didn't tell you sooner, but I was out plaiting the horse's beds.........and it takes ages when you use shavings!

If I walked up to a random stranger and called them a mong or a silly little girl or an tvv@t then id expect at least some vituperation.

A perfect example there of sesquipedalianism by Niknkia.

With regards to the forum, I think they are excellent for networking, skills and experience sharing. Sure you get the odd scrap but lets face it, this is the horsey world :D The pro's far out weight the cons. There have been umpteen horses rescued on here, and struggling owners supported, inspiration given, and friendships made.

I love HHO :D
