I've got a 3 yr old that i plan to get involved in riding (i don't ride anymore, but have hacked in the past). I've seen an advert in Horse and Hound for an event featuring top riders (Zara Phillips, Ben Maher and some others), are these sort of events any good for mothers who are looking to introduce youngsters to riding, or are they really only useful to existing (experienced) riders? It's only £10, so the expense isn't the issue, just wonder whether it is worth the trip up there, or whether most of it will go over my head! Is anyone from here going to it?

Probably a bit beyond a three year old! ;)
I would suggest taking your little one to a local show/gymkhana when he can see tinies of his own age having a blast on little, "normal" ponies - leadrein apple bobbing and the like! Far more likely you'll get the desired response, ie "Can I do that, Mummy?" :)
Mind you, if you could get a baby sitter, you would probably love it!

Oh no, i wasn't planning on taking my son with me - it would definitely be too much for him (he can sit and watch Peppa Pig or Dora the Explorer all day, but scientists talking about horses would not appeal i think - he can stay at home with daddy!). It was just whether it would be of use to me, with a view to being a "horsey mum" in the future.....

I think that the more experience we get, the better. The more we learn, the more we question, the more we learn again.
Your three year old wouldn't get anything from it, but I would have thought that you would pick up hints and tips that would probably stay with you - and for £10, it sounds like god value.

Yes, that's what i was thinking. I also thought that at £10 it was perhaps too good to be true, even for a "not yet horsey mum" it sounds like a great line-up. Will be interesting to see Zara Phillips and Ben Maher in action (i'm not really into dressage although Richard Davison is the cream of the crop, so should be good!!).

where is that on at?
That is something i would love to go to

It's at Addington Manor Equestrian Centre (in Buckinghamshire - not sure where, will let my satnav take me there!) next Sunday - 24th October, 10 - 5. My friend won a couple of tickets today through a competition on Facebook - she's "well chuffed" apparently!!! I paid £10 for my ticket, which i think is very good value - was looking at tickets for Horse of the Year but with a child i couldn't justify spending more than twice the cost of this one, and even that was for the cheap seats! I'm hoping i can still go to this, husband has to work. It's got (looking at the list...) Zara and Captain Mark Phillips, Richard (and his son Joe) Davison, Ben Maher, Emile Faurie, Dr Rachel Murrey (from the Animal Health Trust), um.... Debbie Beasant, Haydn Price, Russell Guire and Justin Llewelyn. Not all the names mean anything to me, but i'm really looking forward to the day out! Oh, and i could win a lesson with Ben Maher if i do go - only i don't have a horse, so not much point!!!!!!!!

i can't find it anywhere on the internet... addington manor have a martin collins demo that day? is that it?

*goes off to search again*

yes it is - I searched addlington manor first too but then searched addlington manor all star forum and it brought it up - doesn't say much though.
