Are hazelnuts posionous?

Have just found out that there is a hazelnut tree overhanging into one of the field but can't remember if they are poisonous?

Well people can eat them, so I should imagine they are not poisonous to horses but I *would* be wary of them eating them because of the shape, they are fairly small and almost round, so could cause choke. I would use electric fencing to keep the horses away from the overhanging tree.

Horses generally love the leaves, I don't think they are poisonous as they are a traditional field hedging plant.
