I have vaguely been looking for a project for the summer, under £1500. I have seen a few 3 and 4 yr olds, unbroken which seem nice horses to me but I am very cautious. These same horses keep being advertised....why aren't they selling?. It is starting to put me off buying if the state of the market means I won't be able to sell it, or am I just being too cautious?
What type of horse/pony is selling at the moment?

I personally wouldn't say the credit crunch is affecting the market that much but i think people maybe want ready-made/bombproof horses to be honest. I insure horses and we are busier than ever and I think also busier than we've ever been on horses valued over £10,000! That to me indicates somehow the people in the 'horsey world' are managing to find money somewhere! Not sure where their getting it from - I could do with some myself!

I have a friend who sells hunters and competition horses and throughout the winter when a new smart looking hunter came in to be sold I would ask him how much it was and they would be between 8k and 12 k, which to me is an obscene amount of money for a hunter...but they were usually sold within a couple of weeks.
It seems that some people think nothing of spending 6-10 k on a quality horse, but the2k-4k bracket is harder to sell.
Is it hard to sell a nicely broken 4yr old, ready to be educated??

i have friends that sell horses and they are all saying that
buisness is v v slow and prices dropping rapidly .
people are thinking "can i afford a horse ?"
def to do with the credit crunch,

I'm struggling to find low end price range 4-6 yos, broken/unbroken, and when I do they're either not as described (shock) or flying before I can get there.
Mind you, I am right down in West Cornwall and can't afford the time/petrol to travel miles for a very "ordinary" horse (which is probably unsuitable anyway) on my 2 days off a week.

Im about to advertise a 5yo ready to do for stupid money just to sell (he was bought for £7K and we are selling him for £4k with £1K of tack)!!!

Nothing wrong but just need a quick sale but this can also make people suspicious

I have always been prepared to give folk the benefit of the doubt in that respect - and found some lovely animals as a result. But two nasty outcomes in the last 14 months are making me even more cynical than usual this time around... doesn't stop me looking though.

A friend of mine just sold a cracking little 5 year old arab for £1250. He had hacked out and done basic schooling, but not a lot more. (See Horsequest, arabs, adults, 3rd one done headed Handsome) The only problem she had was that everyone thought there must be a problem as he was so cheap!! There wasnt, it was just that there was no rider for him. So they are out there

I agree that many people are looking for ready-made bombproof horses (myself included) as alot of people dont want the work of bringing on a youngster. But i am of the opinion that you can sell anything if its the right price!
