Are horses too cheap

Surely horses are only worth what someone is willing to pay.
A £50,000 valued race horse may only make £40,000 at a sale, does that make it a bargin or is it too cheap?
We have 4 horses only one was over a £1,000 and one of those was a bogof.
We do everything thing we can for those horses, they're insured, vaccinated, teeth checked, fed, hay, trimmed (feet), seen too at least twice a day. Just because a horse is a bargin or cheap it doesn't mean the care will be any less from the owner.
We aren't loaded with money, we aren't bothered with holidays we just love our horses and i'm sure there are many owners out there in similar situations.

My first proper pony was bought for £220 inc tack back in 1979.She was a 10 year old spotted pony of unknown breeding, bought from the meat man at Melton by a charity and broken in by them.We had no livery/feed costs as she lived on the farm.
FFWD 32 years and I bought my girls' first pony for £950.She was 20 at the time and a real schoolmistress.I still keep an eye on what is up for sale, out of interest and there are a lot of young/green/issuey ponies about around the £200 mark.Inflation certainly hasn't affected pony prices.
