My yearlings are turned out 24/7 in a field which doesnt really have anything for them to have a good scratch on at the mo (usually have a bit sycamore tree in other field) aside from each other. There are 5 in the field including 2 older horses so the do get a good mutual groom, but 2 of them have developed a new technique (at least ive never seen it before!)...
They reverse up to each other bum to bum & scratch from side to side on each others bums. Its the strangest way ive ever seen a bum itch been itched! Ive seen bums on sides but never bum to bum!
Are my yearlings really odd? :D :D :D

Nope, Puzzle (my yearling) nearly knocked me out earlier when she swung her bum round towards me and began to rub on my shoulder!

Not odd, just intelligent!

As odd as these two? This is the 'I'm going to get your front leg game', which goes on for a long time. They spend many hours kneeling in the field :-) Note Archie's teeth round Thomas's leg....

I can understand this, my 13yo also does this when she wants a bum scratch, but is a bit more polite about it, she just parks herself infront of you & keeps following you round if you move! It was watching both of them carefully line themselves up & reverse. It was really well planned! lol!

& pha Dex intelligent, only when pigs learn to fly! lol! & ive known him since the day he was conceived!! lol!

Hehe Starsky! Mine do simething similar but not quite as violent! lol! & it abruptly comes to an end when the silly boy decides to include the 'parents' & bites the grumpy 4yo's leg! You would think he'd learn she has a nasty & fast back end on her!

Starsky, my 24yo still plays the 'I'm gonna bite yer knees' game - when he gets together with my shetland/welsh they can be at it for hours.

My yearling can take the other yearlings out at the knees at gallop without breaking stride..... They're very funny, you can watch them all day.

Yes, they are best friends really, will happily share feed etc, but they play for hours. You are right about watching them all day, I waste too much time watching them lol!
