Are Neue Schule bits worth the extra money?

I am looking to get a new bit for Chico. I like the look of the Neue Schule Tranz Angled bits but they are double the price of similar bits by other makers (like cottage craft, shires etc).

Are neue schule bits worth the extra money?
 
Yes, but half the price of others like KK.
I have one NS starter which I have used for five years on four ponies, and they all have nice mouths, and never showed any resistance, As long as you are sure of the style you want just buy it, but you can ask for advice if you want, I don't think Shires will offer specialist advice.
You might get one off Ebay if you still feel it is too expensive.
I once bought a CC lunge head-collar, it was useless.
The KK and NS use a soft metal which encourages horses to mouth, not sure about Shires.
 
In my eyes yes they are worth the money. I have a couple, the trans veribend loose ring and an egbutt.

Would defo recommend them, well made, etc

had a problem with my old eggbut where the ring was stuck and would not tilt, I sent it back and they sent me a free replacement, was a good year old too !
 
I think so! My horse is so much happier in his NS verbindend :) If you're not sure about it, you could always hire one from a bit bank before you buy one, so you're sure it's right.
 
Yes. I am a fairly recent convert, but now wouldn't use anything else. My mare is in a NS team up. :)
If you contact Gail @ horsebithire - they will trial you a bit which you can then buy, so you can decide what you think?

What is the difference between the tranz-angled and the verbidend?

Chico is 5 years, backed last year, just started to drop behind the leg and very inconsistent at taking up the contact.

Which would you recommend?
 
Yes, my youngster used to mouth constantly but immediately settled when I changed him for the team up bit.

I would recommend phoning them to ask for advice before purchase. They know their own bits inside and out, and, at least in my experience, won't pressurise you to purchase.
 
absolutely, every horse i have ridden in them are far happier and work much nicer in them. my old lad used to clamp his jaw shut when you put the bridle on, he is ridden in a neue schule universal and when you put the reins over his neck he has his mouth open trying to find the bit :D
 
Agreed - don't ask us, ring them - Heather of NS and Gail of horsebithire were both really great and absolutely no pressure. I think they have the benefit of knowing their bits sell themselves :)
