It was advice given to soldiers in the first world war trenches, if they were injured or shot and there was no clean water available to bathe wounds.
Fresh urine, when peed out, or a few minutes old is sterile(if collected in a clean cup) , and it doesn't smell at all and is harmless and a safer option than bathing wounds with dirty water.
The vitamins minerals and salts in it may be beneficial to healing a wound.
Some people like to drink their own urine to recycle the precious minerals lost from their systems, and it is common practice amongst some societies Chinese and Tibetans.
(I would rather take a vitamin pill)
It is certainly harmless (and cheap) and I believe pH slightly alkaline 7 - 8 and so acts as a mild germicide.
