Are palominos classes as coloureds?

She is palomino in her passport btw :p she has white hairs all over her body and face, has four White socks and a White(natural) marking on her left wither that looks like a no.2, a friend told me they are classes as coloureds?

A lot of places now include Palomino's, Appaloosa's and Duns within their Coloured showing section. Most will state on their listings. :)
 
Most Shows class titles will be Skewbald and Piebald, or coloured now, with a note to say to include dun,palomino etc. If it doesnt have the note about duns etc, then it will probably still only be Piebalds etc :)
 
Coloured classes are usually piebalds, skewbalds etc. If the schedule says 'Odd coloured' the class usually includes duns, spotties etc.
 
Affilaiated Coloured Classes are for Piebald and Skewbalds only, but some shows will run coloured classes accepting dun's etc, I wish they wouldn't because how ever can one justify a dun winning a coloured class !:(

Have to agree, she looks chestnut to me. Passports aren't always reliable as horses can change colour as they age.

Plus you wouldn't believe how many Vets/PIO don't understand simple horse colours. Bay roan is often called strawberry roan and greys are sometimes recorded as roan on their passports. :rolleyes:

ETA. Plus people are still very confused RE duns and buckskins.

She isn't Palomino, but from the pic and you description, it does sound like she is chesnut roan so if it is an 'odd coloured class' (will state roans, duns and spots eligible), then you could enter.

But the classic, yellow palomino is unmistakable, even at birth, if we venture into the realms of sootiness, chocolate etc then I have no idea about those. One of these is a palomino, the other is not.

Hunni, as others have said, usually there are separate classes for palominos. When I was a Show Secretary I was always being asked what would qualify for a Coloured class, we always stated on the schedule (which saves SO much hassle) skewbald, piebald, odd coloured etc.

Then we ran classes for Duns/Buckskins, Appys, Palominos, Roans etc.

Fortunately I was never asked whether cremellos and perlinos etc classed as palominos, perhaps, as people become more au fait with colours there should be classes for 'Dilutes' which would include the dun/buckskin/perlino/champagne/smokeys etc.

She's not really roaned enough IMO.

However (just for fun ;) :D ) here's a strawberry roan (Chestnut + roan gene)

Sabino can very from mimimal expression (hardly any roaning or white markings) to maximum sabinos that are totally white.


ETA. S - He's quite right, he is special. :D
 
Have to agree with the passport thing, my Haflinger is recorded as palomino.

I mean, seriously!? Haha, they are chestnut with a flaxen mane and tail. And he's pangare as well if I really want to be picky! ;)

The man himself, haha. I find this one interesting cos it still shows on his shoulder when he's clipped. Didn't know what it'd be like underneath as never clipped him before, and didn't even know what pangare was at this point! Found out on here :p:o

And she's very pretty OP, didn't see the Haflinger in her though, who was Haffy, mum or dad? :)

Can I ask a question on the subject? Is it correct to plait in a coloured class and is it correct to plait a palomino in a yearling class? Want to show my new girl this summer but she has the thickest mane ever!
 
I agree with neelie - palominos/duns/roans; they're all gorgeous but it's not right that thay're included in coloured classes as they are not coloureds.
 
Couldn't resist to post a picture of my palomino. He does still have a bit of winter coat left in the pic. I agree it can be a little confusing with showing me but it does normally clearly state it on the schedules if they are accepted.

I think palominos should be shown completely naturally, for their classes they must be totally untrimmed.
For coloured classes they, proper coloureds not palominos, can be natural or plaited depending on their type, so either plaited trimmed and pulled or left completely.
