Just a question, due to the economic downturn are people still using part and full livery services?

All i see online these days are "field wanted" or "diy livery needed" adverts??

I use part livery or what is closer to assisted grass in the summer. I don't drive and I have two kids to mind, plus work so it gives me a bit of breatihng space and is worth every penny.

Well we are looking for diy livery & i have 3 children but also looking for the option to pay the odd few pound extra now & again to turn out for me. Full livery is ok for people that work alot of hours & just want to ride but its SOOO exspensive (i personally could never afford it) Is it really worth the money?

Yep loads of people ! My mate jsut moved her 2 to a new full liv yard it has only been open 2 months and is full !

definately. there's nothing worse than worrying about if your horse is going to get fed because you're stuck in work and might not make it up.

I run a small yard and have five part liveries. I have never had trouble filling any vacancies. At five liveries, I am full and still get enquiries. I don't do DIY or assisted livery.

Oh YES it is worth the money for peace of mind for one thing!

All my liveries are full, either pasture or stall board I don't do DIY, I like my Owners but it would drive me nuts to have the daily comings and goings of a DIY yard on my doorstep, and I mean, on my doorstep, I couldn't be doing with that.

The horses want for nothing, daily needs etc are all cared for, all the owners have to do is roll up, some are more hands on than others, they bring in, feed treats, groom, ride, or just lean over the fence and visit with their horse, they do what they want, whenever they want - that could be daily, or it could be once every few days, or once every few weeks.

I certainly think no less of someone who comes up once in a while rather than every day. It is not my business to make judgements about what people choose to do with their time or their money.

Owners know that their horses are cared for and are happy, isn't that what every owner wants? To know that at the end of a busy day, when there is 3' of snow on the ground, it's blowing a blizzard, -25C they don't have to struggle out to a DIY yard to do their horse, and then have to do it again in the morning, or they can go to the cottage for a holiday weekend without organising horse cover, whatever.

Yes, I'll be looking for part or full livery when I move mine.

With my work, kids etc, it's essential for me. I'm on assisted at the moment and even that's stressful for me, but I'm a worrier anyway.

So if anyone know of anywhere in Cheshire near Somerford Park, apart from Smallwood or Somerford (excellent yards but I'm a happy hacker so too professional for me) :o)

Yes!

I would be pretty screwed without full or part livery. There is no way I could keep my girl in a set routine within acceptable hours if I had to go on to DIY. This is due to longish commute to the office, sometimes long working hours and also business travel in the UK and abroad.

My ponio has been on either full or part livery for the last 15 years and its been a life saver for her and me!

My part livery is fab for me! Couldn't do without it! They bring in, turn out, feed morning and nite. Now due to work commitments I pay a little extra to get him skipped out each day so if I'm late from work, there's not as much pressure! Just have to groom, ride and make up feeds and hay nets! And have lots of cuddles of course! Happy days!!

Yes definitely - what Sadiemay said!

i have both mine on full but to be fair our yard is really good value and i work in return for lessons etc... I go to school full time and work pretty flatout both my boys r exracers and psychopathic if not exercised regularly so its just kinder to keep them full livery and in a set routine...

i had my horse on full livery once and i hated it !! my horse got quite stressed as it was quite an unorganised yard and because it was half full half diy some of them got fed early and some late - it was just a big mess and because my horse wasnt in a routine he got very naughty !! i really missed mucking him out and stuff too i felt like we lost our bond - so i put him in a DIY which i absolutely love !! generally speaking whoever is there first does all the feeding and the horses are v.happy ! admittedly there is a free lance groom that comes in twice a day for anyone who needs turning out etc and tues to fri i pay her to feed/t.o so i dont smell at work x

Hi

You may consider us a tad too far, but we have amazing hacking so you feel we are worth the travel and if you're on full livery then that free time anyway.

Check us out
Cheers :)

I'm on full livery at a lovely yard who take care of my boy like he is their own.

He was always on DIY, but I made a choice to have a career with money that can afford to keep him on Full Livery, rather than the day to day job that would let me have loads of time with him.
Yes it was great for the few years we had getting to know each other but that doesnt matter anymore, I still see him almost everyday, I get to do a job I love, and know that he is being taken care of and in a routine he is happy with. :)

Plus I actually think Full Livery doesnt seem to much more expensive considering the cost of hay and food and the difficulty I always had trying to source hay and bedding. PLus lugging it around after work. I'm so glad he's on full livery.

I have to have my 2 on full livery due to work commitments. Yes it is expensive but I have the comfort of knowing that they have a routine no matter what happens in my life.
And I am lucky to be on a yard that we all love, which makes a big difference.

Nope, I got sick and tired of paying £65 a week for straw, hay and feed that werent used as much during the summer, you could only have a set amount of when it was needed, fields never had any grass and I was dictated to how much feed my horse should have.....went DIY and never been happier. Wouldnt go back even if money was nothing.

Not surprised they limited you at that price! I don't know how anyone could charge so little. I only just break even charging £95 per week! Ten years ago it used to cost me around £65 per week when I was on DIY. £25 for the livery and the rest on haylage, bedding and feed.

Yes, mine's on part and I have a sharer.

I know that even if I can only get to my boy at the weekend (which is a pretty common occurence) he will be well taken care of.

Oh, and I pay £30pw for him to be out in the field with one feed a day and checked/rugged as appropriate, with a stable ready whenever he or I need it. I also have a sharer.

I would be stuck without part/full livery due to work commitments. I know that my horse will be well looked after while I'm at work so I don't worry. I avoid the problem above by having an arrangement where I pay for part/full livery services as required, but I buy all my own feed and bedding and it's stored in a separate area. YO knows that I would rather she use as much is needed to make my horse comfy rather than try and scrimp, so the arrangement works well for everyone.

I am on 5/2 and wouldn't have a horse without it, costs me £75 pw and my yard is ace, horse come first without a doubt, gets whatever feed he needs, I felt really awkward coz I wanted to put my loaner (who is owned by the YO) on senior mix and bought a bag myself, she told me to stop being daft and that feed was included :)

Used to be on DIY and it was a massive strain on me because I have so many other commitments (badminton, basketball, netball, though thank god no kids)

:)
