Are ponies starting to sell now??

Hi all, Ive had my daughters lead rein pony out on loan for a year now. The end of the contract is coming to and end, i always said that i'd probaly want to sell at the end. The idea of loaning was more to soften the blow to my daughter.
Anyway december time they text to update me (as they do regulary) and to say would i be ready to sell. I said yes that i was ready to anyway and it was always going to be a option at the end of contract.
So they said as it was Christmas could i wait untill the new year, i though fair enough, monies tight that time of year. So anyway new year came and they said there dog hadnt fallen pup as planned could i wait untill july, i didnt really want to but said ok as it was easier than getting a pony back while there was snow on the floor.
So got another text yesterday that they dont want to buy as the daughter will outgrow sooner or later but they want to carry on definatly for this summer maybe longer. I text back and said no they can either buy her, or shes coming back to me for sale.

An i making the right decision? It will be a hassle having 2 ponies as quite busy at the mo, but she'll be able to live out at my yard and is really low maintinace and my daughter will be able to ride to sell on. Shes a very good pony and will sell easily enough.

An i been unreasonable saying this to them, the contract is ending in the next 2 weeks anyway i just think it will be easier to get her back and sold.

Sorry for waffling on mini jam doghnut balls for those that have managed to get this far.:D
 
I think you are right to ask for the pony back. It is obvious that they will have the pony for the summer and then hand it back, right at the wrong time for rehoming or selling. If you have the pony back now then you have a very good chance of selling it as it obviously is a great pony and with the summer ahead it is the perfect time. Basically spread the word around that your pony is coming home and some lucky person could have him fit and ready to go for the summer. A sensible price is important though as it is a buyers market but if your pony is a star and word gets around I bet people will be biting off your arm!
 
I think you have made the right decision.

You let them know a couple of months in advance that you wanted to sell, so I do not think you are being unreasonable. Surely when they were offering to buy back in December that they knew their daughter would outgrow the pony anyway?

The market is still rubbish, but as we are getting into Spring and Summer now I do think it has started to pick up a little, and I do not think you would have much trouble selling a lead rein pony if they are brilliant with children. Most people would start looking around the spring in time for a few summer shows too.

No doubt if you let them keep the loan on a bit longer, you will get your pony back in the winter when it becomes harder to sell again.
 
Thankyou i feel better now.

I just feel a bit guilty because of the little girl that rides her. But to be honest im not in a position to own a pony forever for another child to ride. My circumstances have changed now too. I split with my husband so got to think of myself and my daughter.

She is a lovely little pony my daughter showed her in hand herself at 5 (mydaughter) and won locally at lead rein shows when my daughter was 4. And always wins on the lead rein jumping.Done PC Bombproof, ,ives out ect ect ect.


When i put her her out on loan i had people begging me to buy her sp really dont think it will be hard.

I will be sad though.

I think you are being more than reasonable, would you PM some details of your pony as I am looking for a LR/FR for my children. Thanks
 
I think they are taking the Mick, so you are doing the right thing having your pony back.

We had a similar thing happen to us but the other way round, we loaned a pony in the Autumn on in definate loan and the owners said in January they wanted to sell. They wanted silly money but said we could keep the pony on loan until the spring. Well we sent it back I saw it as emotional blackmail and as they had the pony on livery they didnt want the work overthe winter.

I dont think it was quite like that they are actually really nice people and have taken great care of her.

Shes coming back next week now though told them they could buy her or she was coming home for sale and they said theyd send her back. So i best get some adverts out!! Although i will be glad to have her home for a while she was my little pet!!:)
 
Ah thankyou all, i felt really bad taking her back from the child more than anything but after speaking to her today i get the feeling they wanted to send her back but me to make the decision as if i ask for her back i have to trasport her back and if they send her back they have to transport her back!:rolleyes:

Oh well, ill sell her from here. Although my daughters outgrown her shes still plenty small enough to ride her, so after a few weeks schooling should sell easily!!! Hopfully!!!:)
