Are Rambo Rugs really worth the money?

I love Horseware and have lots of the rugs but for my new horse (TB x WB) I can only use the ones with the ring/trigger clip closure. For some reason the double metal hook closures on the chest do not fit him at all!

The only one that doesn't fit is the protector fly rug, despite having the single ring closure the neck is massive on him and pulls right back past his withers :-/

I've had various Rambos in the past and they are good rugs but I don't think their prices are justified. These days lots of manufacturers have "upped their game" and most branded rugs are of good quality.

I have a TB, a young growing QH and Irish bog pony (connie x something(s)) so all very different shapes. I've found Weatherbeeta to be excellent for my TBs past and present. Amigo lightweights and fly sheets fit all of them well and do a good job for me. I really like FALs (old style when they were made in the UK) and their fit on chunkier horses like QHs, past and present. I had a bad experience with Premier Equine the one time I bought a rug from them (rug fell apart on first use) so would never recommend or use again but I did fork out to get the rug repaired and it's so heavy when wet (It's a MW) that I try not to use it but it is very deep. I bought a "cheap" Bridleway combo h/w and it's been brilliant, my only improvement would be if it had a full tail flap.

I also bought my youngster a cheap as chips Axiom combo rug from eBay and it's fantastic, it even stood up to the Irish Bog Pony's attempts to rip it to shreds when QH was wearing it unlike every single other rug that's been savaged by him! I also bought an Axiom years ago for a skinny, cold TB I'd just bought and it was warmer, easier to handle and better fitting then the plethora of expensive branded rugs in his wardrobe. They are plenty deep enough in my experience and have a full tail flap. It might be a cheaper option until you figure out what brands you'd prefer to use for your new horse.

I have the Rambo medium and heavy weights and wouldn't use anything else! My heavy weight Rambo is on it's 3rd horse ;) (and I've never sold a horse)

I do have "cheaper" lightweights but would never use anything else for actual Winter if that makes sense.....

I just can't bring myself to part with the amount of money for horse a rug - I would never spend that on me!! My last top was £6 from primark :)

Enjoy that top, it'll be the last new one you have for quite some time...

The lightweight with no fill is unlikely to have the fastenings for the liners so best to do the system rather than mix and match. You'll have bits of rug sticking out from under the top rug and they're a flag for a playful horse to grab and pull.

There was recently a thread about bargain price of Rambo Original Lite turnouts at Robinsons. It's the blue one which is 100g.
I've used Rambos for years, and I bought one of the Robinsons rugs (6ft 9ins @£125.99). It seems to be as good quality as ever, and according to the sewn in label was still Made in Ireland.

Wish I'd bought a 6ft 3ins too, for another horse, but that size is now sold out.

I keep looking at the ruggles rugs as seen a few posts about them. They seem a great price but from the pics do look very basic and not good quality?

basic in what way? the way the neck covers clip on rather than velcro on saves the mane being rubbed and aside from that the fit is comparable to eg Mark Todd, the front has plenty of adjustment etc.
