There's nothing nicer than the smell of a tack shop.

There's a real buzz from walking in & seeing all the new colours, new ranges, adverts, local magazines, horsey people you know.

It's great to be able to FEEL the products, read the small print, try the stuff on.

You can guess what I voted!

I like both, personally. As a novice, its particularly useful for me to be able to get advice from real experienced people in the tack shops. As a skinflint, I like being able to spend less online.

I do both. I usually buy most things (rugs / tack etc.) online as it is cheaper and easier. But for usual day to day things (like last things I bought where haynets and XC boot tape) Ill buy them from my local shop. I buy all my feed supplements from my tack shop so they're still doing well from me!

a tack shop no far from mine has just closed down i think she beein having probs for a long time but i think in the end it was best to closed coz she never had anything in the shop.

I just the internet and the tack shop on my yard ( dont have to pay straight away can go on a bill

) also she get all the euor star and thing like that from germany which i have to travel to find a shop that sells this stuff as i think to see it and try on before i buy.

I do both, I like to go the tackshop, and will always go there to get my feed anyway. But the internet is cheaper. There are 4 tackshops in a 30 mile radius of me (at least), not heard of any closing, in fact one just opened a new branch

we don't have a proper saddlers near us, touching good quality leatherwork involves half a day to visit Frogpool. It's a shame as I would rather get my stuff from a saddler but end up resorting to ebay alot!

I wanted some tie-up rings the other day and our local tack shop didn't even have these so I hvae to go on-line.

Its a bit of a catch 22 now.

I would have ticked both the options for buying from a tack shop. It may be cheaper (sometimes) to buy on-line but it is only cheaper because the seller has no overheads and is unlikely to offer a practical after-sales service. My son worked in a rather swish hi-fi shop and got very fed up with people coming in to look at a product and then going off to buy it on-line. BUT the catch with buying on-line is . . . what do you do if you want to take the product back because it is faulty/not exactly what you wanted/want or need mending etc. He used to get people coming in expecting to exchange something that they'd bought elsewhere on-line . . . erm . . I don't think so! I'm a bit old-fashioned, I'm afraid, I like to be able to "hold it in my hand" before I buy and wandering around tack shops is a lovely way to spend a wet day!

I'm right around the corner from Robinsons and have Derby House up the road, Village Saddlery the other so am spoilt for choice! Saying that I work for one of them and its like working in a chocolate factory, you totally go off chocolate. I've not bought anything for months and months lol
