Hi! We have a lovely Dartmoor X Riding Pony called Beau and he is a total sweetheart. He rides nicely and is generally in good health. We are thinking of breaking him in to drive and wondered if anyone knew of any possible benefits to doing this. Pros & Cons if you like
Thanks

I found it was a useful way of keeping our small pony fit and slim when my daughter outgrew him. She also enjoyed driving him and we had great fun at Christmas dressing pony and cart up to deliver cards.

Dartmoors are quite good at driving I believe (from limited experience that is!). Some people say it can make them heavier on the forehand for riding, but I don't know if there is any truth in that.

It's a great job for a pony and it helps to keep them slim and healthy .
It's great fun to do and learn .
The cons really apart from the cost you do need harness and carriage of course and buying carriages can be fairly addictive.( I have run out of space now. ! )
You do need to learn all the safety side of things properly from someone experianced but I would say go for it .
