Hi.

There is a possibility that we may move to Ireland in the next year. Would likely be Wexford, Kildare or Tipperary areas. Just wandering what the horse scene is like. There seem to be loads of trekking centres on the internet, but not much on competition centres. Are any of there sport horse areas. I tend to event, but also SJ and dressage. Also hacking?

Also do people use equine chiropractors / rehab centres or not as much as in England?

Any info would be grateful. :)

Thanks.

Hi, I'm very north Tipperary, on the Offaly border. It's very horsey around this area, though mostly focused on SJ and hunting. Although localy they have started holding more dressage comps and eventing. Hacking not too great anywhere here i've lived, mostly roads unless your lucky to be near off road hacking. Though we are close to the slieve bloom mountains so can box the horses there.

There aren't many rehab centres at all, although chiropractors are becoming more popular. Wexford, Dublin and Kildare would be ahead when it comes to that. Kildare is pretty much the horsiest county here and has centres and competitions everywhere so a lot to choose from. Feel free to ask any more questions.

I'm not Irish but did live there fora wee while - does that count.

If so

a. you lucky person, I'd live there in a heartbeat. Lovely country it really is.

b. My recollection of Kildare and Tipperary is that its is pretty horsey - although more in the TB / racing side. Kidangan Stud is in Kildare and Coolmore in Tipperary. There is an amazing equestrian centre in Kildare called Kill with great facilities. although this was a while ago. There is also a great horse suppliers but for the life of me I can't remember where.

I hope you go and i'll be super jealous if you do. :)

Kill is still running and holds fantastic shows regularly :)
Not far from Kill is Holmstead saddlery, could be the supplier your thinking of? There's also Thoroughbred Remedies in Kildre which is great for buying any tack etc...

I'm from Enniscorthy, Co Wexford. All farming country really. Quite a few trekking centres and also some equestrian centres which run competitions.

Hi I'm also from Tipperary but the southern end, close to Cork & Waterford borders. Clonmel/Fethard/Cashel area is very racing orientated, Coolmore is in Fethard.
Lots of hunting with several packs in Sth Tipp & neighbouring counties.
Also a good few SJ options- Ballyrafter in Lismore (Co Waterford), Thurles, Piltown (can't remember the name of the centre).
I can't say much about dressage option I'm afraid, I just don't know.
There are definitely two riding clubs close by- Clonmel and Thurles but there could be more, I'm not sure.

Most people in our hunt would have a 'back person' at least once per year and more often if the horse was injured/suspected injured.

HI thanks for that.

I think we are spoilt in England having competitions most weekends.

Are there not many rehab centres because there isn't the demand? Do you think people would use them if available? Just thinking along those lines as hope to get a property with some land.

Not so good on the hacking front. For some reason I thought there would be loads. I take it there are forestry, mountain type areas that one can generally box to for descent hacking?

Any more info would be great.
