My dad has something to do with all the interviewing for them in our area, he said read up on the job aspects carefully , you be surprised hwo many people come in havign no clue about the job atall !
good luck!
I used to be one - now work in the control room. My advice it to really read up on whatever the force policies and priorities at the moment. Try and encorperate them into you answers. Also, when you are answering you competency questions, take you time in answering them, you get scored on each one for not only what you say but also for spellings and grammer etc.
PM me if i can be of any further help - the applications can be a bit daunting!
My OH is in the police and I've always helped him with his applications. You could well know this, but give examples that back up statements you make, so rather than just saying you are cool in a crisis, give an example of a crisis you faced, what you did and how this affected the outcome.
Also try to get the words they use in the person spec into what you write. It sometimes sounds a bit contrived but it works - When he went for one internal job my OH was told that his application (which I wrote!) was the best they have ever seen! So if, for example, it says "able to manage a budget" (I know it won't but stick with me!) "able to gather information" "able to use own initiative" and "considers all options before making a decision" actually say
"I was once in a situation where I didn't have any show jumps to practice with at home for an important competition so I gathered the information on how much it would cost to buy new or second hand jumps. I considered all options but they were still too expensive for my budget so I decided to use my initiative and make some instead, this was much cheaper so I stayed within my budget, had jumps to practive with and went on to win the competition"
