that would rehome a dog with our family?

This isn't an immediate plan (haven't actually bought the house yet! Fingers crossed for it all to go smoothly) but after losing my lovely greyhound bitch last year, I finally feel ready for another dog. I have always said I'd only ever have a rescue dog, as I only want a pet, but all the big organisations seem to state implicitly or explicitly that they would not rehome where there were children under 12.

I am home all day, the house we are hoping to buy has a lovely secure garden and a park 100m away. Dog would never be alone for more than 2-3 hours, but we have a little boy, who would probably be a year old by the time we were settled enough to take on a dog. Are there any centres that anyone knows would consider us? I don't really want another greyhound - kind of feel like it would be filling her space, but not really set on a particular type of dog.

Would appreciate any suggestions

Thanks for the suggestion roops - but have just gone through their website, and every dog seems to state no children or teens only - apart from 2, which say 8+. Do you know if they actually do rehome to homes with younger children?

Perhaps it's not meant to be, I can understand them covering their backs, but I would be very sad if there were not a single dog that we could rehome, just because we have a child

That's a good idea, thanks

It's all a bit pie-in-the-sky til we get settled properly, but I am a bit shocked at how difficult it seems to be to actually find one... Bit naive maybe, but I'd expected that most rehoming charities would be very keen to get dogs into good homes

I'll keep that link. Everything crossed that the house will all go through smoothly and I can start dog shopping soon

The Dogs trust where we have just got our new dog seem to have apolicy of not homing strays with young children as they dont kniow their history and suppose its difficult to test them out with children, but think they have a list of people waiting to have their dogs accepted for various reasons who have small children and know the dogs history,.

Theres a place at Stondon Massey. The lady is GSP rescue but takes in others aswell, the wardens drop off to her. I got my lurcher from there when my youngest boy was 2. She was great...well mad but great! I can't remember her name or number but I got her details from a local Dog Warden.
