Are there ANY sprays that are effective against horseflies?

While effective and have used it on mine before, it will melt anything that contains plastic - learned this by melting my phone and the floor coating when i was travelling so it will do the same to a fly rug, its great stuff if you dont rug and you don't spray near tack.

I use power phaser currently and definitely the most effective I've used but it does not smell great.

Second the melting tried some yesterday some got on my tights and melted holes.

'Sprays' —— No. Any treatment which contains Alphacypermethrin is as close as we can get to a genuine and long lasting repellent. The correct application protocol is vital to success, and when it fails it's always because the chemical wasn't properly applied.

Alec.

edit: I've only used DEET on myself in Africa, so can't comment on it's use for equines. It worked very well for me, so perhaps ….

Deosect contains cypermethrin and so far I've found it the most effective repellent. Our boy suffers from sweet itch too and is black so he always has a fly mask and white THIN weave special fly rug (as someone mentioned earlier, horse flies go for darker colours). I observed in the field last night at turn out (7pm) and he was very settled compared to other horses nextdoor that were fly swishing and stamping.
Always use the correct dilution (within 24 hours of mixing) and don'tspray in a confined area (strong stuff).

Not sure why this has happened.....the container it comes in is plastic and the spray bottle I use to make the solution is a plastic garden type spray bottle - both are hole free.

I used to use tritec and phaser, moved to deosect every couple of weeks and phaser as the former seemed to help the mites, seemed to mostly do the trick. Thankfully we don't really get horseflies in current location.
