Are there less comp reports?

Don't think it helps when you type out a post/reply then the forum eats it and comes up with server error, as it is doing tonight.

We arnt competing so much at the moment, and I do wonder if people really want to read about our tribe (5 of us in the family ride). Also it can be a bit disheartening when, if like me you can only manage to turn the pc on, type with one finger and need assistance of teenage daughter to load pics, and you hardly get any replies:)

Have wondered this week about doing a report on the youngest member of the family defending his lead rein championship at the local show, but thought it might look a bit silly.....

alwaysbroke - please do it. Your little lad is ever so cute. As long as you have plenty of pics to add!!!

Saf - maybe it is the event report phenomenon - event reports always get more replies than SJ or dressage ones, and you haven't been doing any of the exciting stuff recently have you. Can't wait to see you and S back out again.

Will give it a go tomorrow if I survive xc schooling that is! Now have the added problem of a new pc so will attempt pics, they are cute but I am biased:)

i like the new forum but a post can easily disappear within half an hour! The only difference seems to be the new posts forcing a thread to the top and i am not a fan!

I would like a *like* button like facebook. Sometimes I am at work browsing when I should not be so cannot reply but its nice to show people you have read it.

Well, i haven't been posting much recently i have to admit :o

On the Comp Reports front my excuse is that i have only been to about 6 shows in the past year....broken ponies mainly, but also very busy at work :(

On the practical front, i find the new forum very cumbersome to use. I have got things sorted so that the ordering is the same as the old forum, but i hate the fact that i have to wade through pages of posts that i have already read to get to the first new post....why can't i just get taken to my first unread post in a thread :(

I spend most of my time using the forum on my laptop on the train, or on my phone...and neither of these methods is conducive to having to make lots of clicks and wait for lots of pages to reload.

Generally i just find the whole thing less clear than it used to be.

I do try to read the posts that people make....but often as not, replying is just one extra click too many.....and what do i know about eventing anyway ;)

Rambo- if you click on the little grey square with arrow pointing down that is to the left of the thread title, it will take you to the first unread post. :) I hope all broken ponies are on the mend.

LEC- definitely agree, a "like" button would be fab! :)

Hihi,

I know a few people have posted how to already but in case anyone missed it..... near the top of the page there is a part which tells you whereabouts in the forum you are (i.e. horse and hound forums>horse and hound online forum> competition riders) if you click on the last part it will take you to the main index of that part of the forum (i.e. in this case click on competition riders). Then if you scroll down below all the posts there is a bit called display options. On the left hand side there is a drop down menu and you can use it to select Thread Start Time. As previsouly said unfortunately it forgets when you leave the forum but it is fairly quick to do and stops posts floating around so much.

Also, I use the quicklinks bit near the top of the page to go to subscribed threads to find those easily (although i can't work out how to subscribe to a thread other than by posting on it).

On the other issue of reading but not posting - I do this a lot!! I often don't feel I am qualified to comment as I am just a riding school numpty but I enjoy reading what other people have been up to. I would guess there are a lot of other people like this rather than just loads of weirdos reading but not replying!

If you are concerned that threads get knocked off quickly by other replies posted on older threads & them coming to the for the change the way the posts are listed. Go to the bottom of the page & change 'Sorted by' to 'Start Time'. That way you will see the new posts & won't be troubled by old threads being bumped to the front.

Oops didn't see....already posted :(

That is a GREAT idea LEC!
I have often read a report and enjoyed reading it but haven't got the time to do a reply and/or can't think of anything constructive to say. I know I could add a quick 'well done' but somehow that seems to me more 'empty' than being able to use something akin to the 'like' on Facebook.

There are definitely fewer reports from me. I have been to Oasby and nowhere else :(. Our next two planned runs (one Intro and one PN) have been cancelled and I have nothing looming for a few weeks :(. If I have a VERY exciting weekend this weekend I *may* do a dressage report from an unlikely participant ;). However I do feel that reports get a lot fewer replies (although maybe still as many views?) and that does colour my judgement somewhat.

From the other side of the fence I think the life has gone out of the site a wee bit. All the in-joking and lighthearted banter seems to be disappearing and I do miss out on peoples' reports fairly frequently. I certainly log in less frequently then before and also comment less often. Not sure why really, just feeling somewhat disenchanted. However it may not be the site, it may just be me .

Gosh that helped, didn't it?

I dont feel well known enough on here to post a report even if i was out doing stuff. When im out and about i will post but i think i will sink down the page with a few views and even less replies.:(
That said i do enjoy reading peoples reports, even better if they have pics. :D I just dont reply as i dont really have much to say and someone has probally beaten me to it.
I agree about the feel of the forum being abit off since thw change and would love it to come back, im just plugging away at it and its getting abit better to use.

I also have a habbit of coming into threads and killing them off so perhaps its better if i dont post :D :D :D

I have just looked up posts with the most views and they are all fairly recent which must mean a lot of lurkers!

I am now going to dig up contentious posts and bump them to the top!

Thanks FJ. That's a great help :)

Ponies doing a good job of building up hopes then dashing them again ! If it's not Bo coughing and weezing, it's Trike standing on a nail...then not to be outdone, Bo coming out in sympathy with a foot absess as well :p Ten days box rest and COPD don't really 'go' lol!
