Hi
In the last few months I have become horseless. I can't afford to buy myself another horse but i am missing riding like crazy!!
I was thinking I would like to offer to ride for someone else. But i would really like to compete a bit at dressage and maybe a bit of showing. I am quite an experienced and confident but quiet rider.
But are there people out there that would want me to ride and compete for them? I would not be able to contribute much financially, but i work as a groom and so am more than capable of doing all yard duties etc in return.
Is this possible or am I just dreaming?!?
Advice appreciated!
Thanks
Emily

yup :) i have competed 3 horses. 2 belonging to one owner and one belonging to another. ive stopped riding now due to other commitments but i did this for a long time. the two who belonged to my friend, i schooled and competed one in dressage and took hunting and the other one i done bsja and hunted. the other one was only 5 and i took him to his first few bsja and BD to get him out and used to it until his owner was confident enough to get on him and compete him herself. IMO, there are always people out there and if you build up a name, you will always get offers ;)

hi ,
yeah there are peolpe out there and i am one of them , i had a horse that was doing BD with someone as i love the care side of it all sadly lost him in april only 7 years old , but now just got a 3 year old that I am doing ground work with then fine someone to show him for me , dont get me wrong i wouldnt just let anybody ride they have to be good . what area are you in ?

Thanks guys. Maybe its not a dream after all!!
Im in cheshire. I have had experience riding all sorts of horses. I used to ride for my instructor, rode alot of her youngsters and some she rescued. My 2 were completley different too, 1 was a 14hh cob and the other a 17hh hunter!
I Have ridden at loacl level doing showing and dressage mainly. With a bit of workers thrown in. And have competed at BRC champs and Derby house final heats in dressage too.
If my instructors will give me references do you think that would help to show im capable?

it a shame we was not close as you could help me with my 3 year old he is a maxi cob hoping to get to HOY, please dont give up, there will be people out wanting a rider .

good luck :)

Move to Northumberland, we have two prospects, despite advertising for
riders, no costs involved we have had no luck finding decent riders, or any riders come to think of it, being shall we say mature owners, it is difficult to do our horses justice.
We love having them, but with full time jobs and being mature our horses are happy hackers, when they are both capable of doing so much more.
Anyone in Northumberland interested?

There are definatley people out there with horses waiting - myself being another one!
i did actually advertise for someone to show for me.... maybe i did the advert wrong as i mentioned a youngster to start off in-hand, but i did say i had others....
well, i didnt even bother to meet the people as they didnt sound capable - or wanted me to provide all of their show attire....
maybe i put people like yourself off but i was wanting to 'try them out' a bit before i asked them about showing one of the others ridden.
there was also one mother who contacted me, but she was up her own rear end about her daughter, and got stroppy with me as i didnt reply to one of her emails within 48 hours... as her daughter was so amazing and it was rude not to acknowledge her email straight away (errrr... i have a life and dont always get online everyday... especially with young twins).

I am working as a groom, however atm alot of the horses are out of work due to injury, 3 in total! Others are livery horses which I cant ride till i have proven my abilities (which i have nothing to prove mydelf on!) 2 are broodmares, 2 yearlings, 3 retired and 1 who is my bosses top comp horse, which NO-ONE else is allowed to touch!! ha ha
So unfortunatly not much going there atm.

I think I will advertise. Because even if i do get some riding at work, i have 2 days off a week and finish at 5 so would have plenty of time to do some competing.

Thanks for the help guys! Sorry I'm not closer to some of you!!:p

I have to say I totally agree, advertise because there are people out there looking for someone like you! Again shame your not in Devon, I am a couple of months pregnant and as we have had to go through IVF I am not riding, so my lovely horse is very happy being lazy rather than doing dressage. I wish I could find someone like you to ride him. Don't give up!
