I am not being sexist here, but cruising the horse ads on a variety of web sites, I cannot believe the number of adverts that claim either pregnancy or a new baby is forcing the sale of a horse.

I accept that we did not own horses when we had our kids, but there certainly seem to be plenty of mums who own and ride, so my question is:

Are there really that many pregnant / recently delivered women selling horses, or is it just a 'sales' line?

Well there certainly are in my area because I have gotten 3 good rides out of it

but yes I see your point!

I think the majority or people selling horses are pregnant or in 'bad health' - well, according the ads anyway! ;o)

i think alot of these adds feel they need to give a reason, when sometimes the horse just isnt for them, but for obv reasons dont want to put that on the ad,

a mag once printed an 'interpretation' of the wordings in these adds (as a Joke) was very funny!!

Ahh yes the 'must have a reason' ploy. If all the people selling shotguns / rifles because they are emigrating, really left the country, I think the population would drop by tens of thousands.

We have also played the 'what do they really mean' game at home. I guess pregnancy / new motherhood is just another of those, which equals, 'it is a flippin sight harder owning my own horse than I ever thought possible'

i (only once) popped in to see what a high performance dealer was selling, and he bigged these horse up so much, u do end up asking y is the owner selling!! all i can say i have never heard so many sob stories in all my life, whether true or not i dont know, but he even told me that X's owner had cancer!! very sad if true sick if not!!!!

I beleive its a sales ploy. If they say their pregnant and can't even ride it to show you. Alarm bells start ringing for me. Or I don't ride and daughter at Uni so no one to ride it. I would never try a horse until I've seen them or someone else ride it.

Last time said she had had a car accident and damaged her back. But her daughter would ride it. Got there daughter in bed with flu so one of the girls on yard would ride it first if we wanted? YES. Girl said excuse my riding only a novice. Should have seen her full leather chaps had more wear than a cowboy. The horse belonged to the livery YO. Her husban said to rider I'll give you a leg up. She didn't even get her leg fully over before horse bolted broncoing she fell off badley they ran to her. I caught the horse handed it to YO and asked how long since anyone been on its back. She said 3 weeks. I suggested they lung it before trying to mount it again first and also Thank you but no thank you. GRRRR
what a wasted journey WHY do people lie on the phone I had asked all these questions.

im pregnant and havent sold my pony or stopped riding the one i look after, in fact i have a second one to look after coming from turkey in may, by which time il be 7 months prgnant lol!

i agree that its most probably a sales ploy alot of the time!

I've had 3 babies and didn't sell my horses! I had my last baby in November and wasn't able to ride during this pregnancy because of a car accident, but I still wouldn't have sold my neds - I just paid someone to ride for me.

I agree that people feel the need to explain why they are selling and having a baby is a good reason, especially if you know you won't be able to cope with your horse afterwards. But I think it is a ploy in many cases, as is the going to uni excuse.

i had my kids and horses at same time
the kids come with me to do my horses and i was riding when i was pregnant to so its just a quick sale

I had to let go a few of my horses when I was pregnant (I had sevral broodies). I wasn't physically able to cope with looking after them on my own due to complications. OH worked full time elsewhere. Funnily enough I never gave that as the reason for selling in an ad.

some people are like that and they use the excuse of being pregnant which makes the people who do need to let go the same as them which is they use the pregnancy as an excuse
i went through hell with my first i had a hemerage i had a blood transfusion and then my platelets went high but in all of this i keeped my horses cause i could sell them [love them to much]

There we are then. Some for and some against. I still think it's salesperson bullspit myself.

I guess when I'm ready to buy a horse for myself if I phone a 'sellin cos preggy' the first question is "when's the baby due". I have yet to come across a single expectant mum who couldn't give you a quick answer to that one (or a long answer for that matter)
