Are thermatexes really, really worth it?

I've got 2 TTX, they are both TTX 2000, about 5 yrs old. They have lasted fantastically. If the top fabric gets holes in (from horse rubbing etc) it is possible to stitch them up. They do a fantastic job of cooling him, very versatile, I often use them as under-rugs because they are very breathable.
They do stretch though, they tend to pull on the chest of the horse (where the fastening is) and also they do make my horse itch sometimes (I think some of the content is wool).

My thermatex does its job well but isnt my fave rug by far. It picks up shavings to the extend that my pony occasionally camoflages itself. However it was very easy to fix the big rip my pony decided to put in it, and its survived a good 5 years (so far outdoing every other rug - although this isnt used very often) my only real negative point about it is that it is quite heavy for a cooler type rug and it has terrible fastenings! I put it on my boy at night and in the morning find that it's slid backwards and the front straps are at their loosest point! helps if I put a rug on top though.
