Are these fly bites or something else?(pics)

My ID gelding is leaving to be broken next week. I noticed lumps on his underbelly and legs. I took a pic of one on the inside of his front leg and on his under belly, just in front of the sheath. Sorry they are not very clear. There are two more similar to the one on the leg but smaller. He was out wintered, but is currently around lots of furze bushes so its a possibility that they are insect bites but I'm not sure. The vet will be out next week before he goes but I'd just like to know now! Thanks

I hate to suggest it but they look rather like sarcoids to me, the area they are in is suspicious and while they could be insect bites they appear to be rather proud of the skin, very similar to small sarcoids in appearance, get the vet to have a good look as he will be best placed to diagnose, if they are just bites they may well be gone in a few days.

I am sorry to say they certainly do not look like fly bites to me. May I suggest you call your vet after Easter.

I really would not put anything on them at all in case they are agravated in any way.
Email the photos over to your vet, plus more if you can put a finger or thumb next to them to give a size guide.
Looks very much like sarcoids to me too.

This, unless it's something like coconut oil or Sudocrem to keep any flies off them.

I don't think a fly bite would look that big/irritated.

I agree with that. But they do look very raw (especially in the first pic).

I think they may be sarcoids. Perhaps it would be wise to get your vet to have a look before you do anything with them. Sadly they have a nasty habit of fighting back sometimes if you disturb them. I have a young horse covered in them.

Thanks, guys. That is exactly what I was afraid of. He is going to be vetted next week anyway! I will wait for him before I do anything with them. He is booked for sales next month so if I do touch them it would be just my luck that they would get aggravated!

could be a rainscald/mudfever type thing if the bellys got wet and stayed that way for a bit eg horse splashing water up when walking in the paddock. try sudocreme.
