sorry i only do black and here are the rules too....also just wanted to say 'WOW', thats one bright jacket on the hanger!...wonder what it looks like on!!!

bd rules say...
Tail coats and short jackets may be any conservative, dark colour, for example navy, bottle
green or charcoal grey etc..
and may not be multi‐coloured or boldly striped. Subtle
pinstripes are permitted as are coloured collars and contrast piping to collar, lapels,
pockets and vents. Unless entitled to wear them coloured collars registered with the
FEI for use by National teams may not be used i.e. the red collar used by the British
team.
Tweed jackets should not be brightly coloured or have loud patterns.

Do you really think it's bright? I guess compared to black and navy it is quite gawky :D

Well no need for further responses guys, it seems bold and bright are out. I should have known it..... So what would you wear this kind of jacket for?

It truly looks like something a clown would wear in the Big Top, sorry.
If it doesn't hang well on the hanger, how can it possibly hang well on a person?

Thank the lord for Hho, because I clearly know nothing. To be fair I have seen it in real life and the camera does give it a certain amount of 'glare', it is quite a bit darker in the flesh. Point made, can't believe I have flashed my bad taste so obviously.

Can someone point me in the right direction. Hat is black so jacket should be black? Horse is piebald... Tack black... It's all pointing to black...

Ha! But seriously, what is this type of jacket for then? Just incase anyone is unsure I have never been in any kind of competition/show before in my life!

possibly showing....but i think id rather go butt naked that wear it :o

dressage - i wear black jacket/hat and boots/ with white jods.......... looks super smart.

if no black is liked - then navy jacket and hat :)

Yep black sounds best bet or you could get away with a grey tweed?

I do like the sound of grey, but you're probably right that I should go with black. I'm an idiot.

As you were ladies, nothing to see here.... Except a decorator's/clown's jacket! :D

low level dressage *should* be tweed.....does look good with black, but go for light cream breeches/gloves
most wear black though....very smart and not difficult to match colours together
either is appropriate!

it depends what you want it for really although i agree i don't like that one either :)

if you get a nice tweed you could used it for almost everything
low level dressage , eventing and tweed is more correct for showing as well as going cubbing if you felt the need
wear tweed with a colored stock/shirt and tie (maybe burgundy ;) ) canary or beige/cream jhods

a black jacket worn with a white stock and white breeches is more appropriate for higher level dressage/eventing , evening showing classes and hunting
so if your only planning on buying one jacket i'd go for a nice tweed as you will get more wear out of it and it is correct to wear a colored stock or tie so you could add a splash of burgundy :)

I'd go for black so that it all matches :)
I like these sort of jackets, I think they look really smart :)

alternatively if you like something a little bit different, and like the colour purple, this one is quite nice I think:

Thanks ladies, I like the first one in the link PPP.

Next stupid question... When you say tweed you mean 'any' colour tweed, grey? Green? Or would you recommend a trad green one?

yes any color tweed really as long as its not to loud

they tend to be a base color (mine is brown) with either one or two colored lines running through it , mine has blue and burgundy running through it so i have the option of wearing a blue stock and navy blue hat or a burgundy stock and black hat :)

That looks lovely Angelish. I have seen a gorgeous Caldene Belvoir tweed in grey blue (officially called blue) that had a slight purple hugh running through it but from afar would give a similar impression I think. It was a good fit albeit slightly too tight but I had a jumper on! I can't find an online photo of it for love nor money but it is reduced in the tack shop to £85....

I have been thinking about it since I saw it the other day, I had better hope it is still there then! Pah - what's another 85 quid when I am about to spend 720 on a second saddle I don't 'need' :)

I know the caldene one you're talking about, much nicer. Perhaps try the bigger size jacket, it may be my personal preference, but I like to be able to fit a warm layer under my show jacket for winter competitions.

Thank you RL, good to have a real life recommendation! It was rather lovely, I was drawn to it right away!

It's clear that I will need to consult on all purchases from now on because I was very nearly a big top clown there :)

Get the £85 one... Step away from eBay on this one. Embrace what you can try on. I will be honest to your face... Rather than through HHO... :-)

Pogface, not a fan of the clown/butlins look? What was I thinking? It was the burgundy that caught my eye. Are you stalking me?

Slate blue/grey or brown/green tweed. For dressage, I have (but never used :o) white jods, black jacket, stock, white shirt. Don't mess with monochrome!

If you like burgundy, you can get really nice tweeds with burgundy overlay and lining... Al's is this, it's mid-green tweed with a fine burgundy check that's hardly there, and a burgundy lining. Looks impeccable on and is very smart- it's worn for everything aside from hunting from county showing to eventing (she's 19 now, so got a lovely navy hunting jacket).
