I don't know. My vet said years ago that bandages and boots were good protection, but no support. How can a bit of material support a half ton horse? He preferred boots as bandages can be put on too tight and cause more problems than nothing at all.
tbh, they can't be. nothing exterior wrapped around can possibly take much strain off the supporting ligaments and tendons - unless it's a Robert Jones bandage!
agree with the point about boots being better than bandages, because they're harder to apply too tight.
the only thing i think might help a tiny bit is tubigrip. i use it on my wrist occasionally (goes sore from over-use making up feeds, believe it or not!) and it makes a real difference. so, i use it on the horses xc, under front boots. i learnt it from Leslie Law, who learnt it from Ginny, fwiw!
No..dont think either are 'support'...I was looking for something a while ago to support and my vets said there wasn't anything that would support but put me in touch with an irish company who now you can buy things from anywhere - Dalmar. I used their boots. They are in shops etc now but I used to call them and speak to them in Ireland.
To give any kind of support would need be tight which in turn would be damaging...so not really.
I've seen a kind of support boot but that was for injury not work.
There will always be the debate about whether boots or bandages are best...its probably really only due to personal preference.
