I only ask because in the last two days ponio has gone back to demon pony

.

Started with his belly getting a little rounder. Okay, decrease the grass intake and up the exercise.
Then started refusing to come to call (he always comes trotting over to call).
Today we took him out on a normal hack. In two fields they'd baled the barley straw up and waiting for bales to be collected. (bear in mind this pony is as bombproof as they come), he spots a bale (and convinces himself it's wielding a machine gun) and freaks. Eyes rolling, snorting. Son asks him fowards, he shoots fowards ears pinned back, and starts jogging (this pony is a PLOD lol). Get halfway up the field and I decide he's a bit fresh, so ask son to get off and take ponio for a trot up a step hill to take the energy out. Get to the top and he's still full of it and won't go past the bales. Working on the concept that it's easier to get them going fowards fron on their back than on the ground I take his saddle off and hop on.

and the little bugger tanked with me

. He then decided the next bale was a pony murderer and started bucking

. Got him to approach it and he was quite happy nuzzling it and eating it. asked him to walk away and he ran backwards, and tanked in the opposite direction bucking like a trooper all the way (and squealing). Stopped dead when asked to slow, threw an almighty buck, and I hit the decks....

This is sooo not him. Could it be the grass atm ??

Deffo in the grass! Micks did a bronco impression today and he is usually the calmest horse in the county. And his lami appears to be making a comeback.

Stupid weather...

Yes we are!
There's usually a flush sometime in the autumn. It's usually when the first real rains occur after the dry summer - you've got warm ground still and then lots of water which encourages grass growth.
I think we've had several flushes this year with the warm then wet weather.
And here we've certainly had wet and warm weather, although it is drying up now, so i think it's caused the grass to grow.

Yes, had the same problem today at a show!! First I had trouble getting on as he decided to take off as soon as my foot touched the stirrup! Once on, he gave a massive jump and kick

and later put in a rear
mad.gif
to top it all, when I was unbridling he decided to give me the slip and went for a long gallop around the showground, hijacked the gymkhana ring

and generally gave me the run around!! once tied up back at the yard he deliberately booted the wall of the box behind him! Now this horse is far from a saint normally but everything I have just described he has NEVER done before and I'm just wondering (hoping) that it is the Autumn flush!! Needless to say, after all that runaround today I left him in his box tonight

[/ QUOTE ]had he been much bigger than he is I am almost certain I could have seriously hurt myself

. At least I now know that if he ever did tank with one of the kids he's not strong with it at all, just very lively!!
